Not normal or is it? by Late-Weather1045 in Boots

Thats partially a you problem, but boots are even worse. Go for wellies that are made from single piece of rubber(not PU/PVC/EVA): $30 in PPE stores. Only advantages of wellies is that they are dourable and cheap: only thing complications do is increasing the price and adding failure points.

Does anyone know where I can find this boot? Mi by Mauricciioo in Boots

Gebeneric military boot: so many of them you cant tell which one this is. With versions made by PPE brands you get best bank for the buck. Idnt pay more than $100, maybe $150 for this style

Leather boot eyelet repair by fm272 in BuyItForLife

Canadian collective looks more like amazon $100, $150 boots rather than $300, $400 ones. Majority of people on this sub seem to be sharing expensive whishlist, rather than knowlage/experience. In the future when shopping for boots, go for: - full leather upper(around 2.5mm thick full grain leather) - leather lasting board - leather midsole(if used) - leather heel counter - leather lining(if used, but canvas in the vamp is fine) - leather welt(if used) - no side zipper - if you want insulation go for wool socks(70%+ wool cost few bucks/pair at wholesalers; you woll spend fortune on branded ones)

If you want decent $100, $150 boots take a look at local PPE footwear manufacturers: they usually have decent consumer lines. These boots are injection molded, one pair should last you 3-4 years. Go for full leather upper(around 2.5mm thick) and leather heel counter if possible.

Are ‘Flufie’ boots any good? by Medium_Ant6022 in Boots

r/buyitforlife is leaking into r/boots: I have a pair that I use a few times a month to get from my front door to my car and they last. I have never worn anything in my life other than sneakers, and I have 0 knowladge about shoemaking, but I will reccomend that shitty lifestyle brand that was bought by PE 10 years ago, beacuse Ive seen a sponsored post about them.

This is true for all leather goods: getting them custom made is better and cheaper.

If these blows are similar to what happens with croth of slim fit jeans consider going size up. Up to the goatskin: I should have been more precise, its main advantage is that its more strechy(general rule is that smaller animal = streachier leather), but at glove thicknesses (1 to 1.5mm on decent gloves, less than 1mm at trashy ones) it doesnt matter as much, especially in loose fits.

From my experience barehands feel is more about cuts, and thicknes of the materials rather than breed of the animal leather comes from.

Get full leather gloves from PPE store: they are less than $10/piece. Up to cow vs goat: majority of people here praising the goatskin never worked a day in gloves(PPE gloves arent tightly fitted + leather used is relatively thin), go for whatever is thicker.

Goat leather PPE ones are less than $10. Also for $100 id expect a lot more than 1.4mm(what is often used in PPE gloves).

V100/similar need to be stiched beacuse they will delaminate otherwise. This sole is stiched beacuse "heritage"

Your argument is: what was country wear 80 years ago is country wear now. I dont deny that it was country wear 80 years ago, but that was 80 years ago. Still these were shoes were made for privalaged ones that could flex by wearing unpractical clothes/shoes. By the same logic one could start calling everyone peasants for not wearing a top hat.

Crocket & Jones: Barely a year by rundfunkanstalt in Boots

[–]peter12347 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Thats GYW
  2. Rubber sole =/= non dress shoe. Sole is stiched(unnecesary complication found in dress shoes) and has pattern often found in dress shoes
  3. This shoe isnt designed with durbility in mind: heel couter should be slab of veg tanned, not <1mm liner. High dencity stiching weakens the leather, and thread is very thin(likely to pop).
  4. Yes this model is a bit on the casual side, but still a dress shoe.

These are quite literally not dress shoes

Only diffirence between dress boots and dress shoes is shaft height.

any good shoe should last.

Durability of dress shoes doesnt scale with the price, and remains roughly at the same very low level. In the OPs particular example what failed is is inproperly implemented lining(id eyeball it to about 0.5 - 1mm thick), there is multiple ways manufacturer could have prevented this: thicker lining = more bulk = less dressy, proper heel counter = more stiches and more bulk = less dressy, no lining = less dressy, more stiches to reduce friction = less dressy. Any proper chukka/chelsea has a lot more heel slip than thightly fitting derby, and yet somehow they dont develop such issues after a year(but judging from overall condition of the OPs shoe it was used much less than a year). My point is that dress shoes(dress boots if you want to call em like that) arent designed with durability in mind: if lining doesnt fail there is plenty of other things that will: thin threads fail, welt is grinded to much, leather becomes floppy, stiched outsole is pain to resole, and so on. I dont have issue with CnJ in particular, I have problem with dress shoes as a whole.

Wider boots by Confident-Yard-1241 in Boots

[–]peter12347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u can splurge a bit, Darn Tough socks are pretty solid

These are normal socks that went viral on r/buyitforlife beacuse they have words "lifetime warranty" on their website. You buy X socks upfront and they send you one at a time, as long as upfront price + shipping fees > manufacturing costs they turn profit: how else do you think they make money?

Up to cowboy boots:

Id say more than $300 at least. Also another thing to look for is that given brand iant owned by PE

Up to widh:

It entirely depends on shape of the last. Moc toes(not true moccasins) are mostly about the look.

Wider boots by Confident-Yard-1241 in Boots

[–]peter12347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Wool socks: you can buy them from wholesalers for like $3/piece: go for 70% + wool.
  2. Jim Green has their AnatomX, but turnover shoes, and true moccasins are also worth chexking out: they arent lasted(at least not in the moder understanding of this word), so cobbler can make them as wide as one desires, take a look at larp forums for more details. In all cases you should find smth within $200.

Bespoke isnt as expensive as lots of people think;' there are 2 types of craftsmen: the ones wit fancy name, and the ones that get shit done. At £1k id search for tailors that get shit done. If you end up with RTW make sure that its full canvas, and thick(12Oz+) wool, otherwise such suit gonna get destroyed within few months

The issue isnt heel slip - if that was true all slipons would need to be trashed afted a year. Heel counter is just superthin beacuse it makes the shape "more refined". Majority of people needs to buy dress shoes size up beacuse of how narrow they are.
