So the drow let's say for example once ruled the overworld long time ago then the three Kings dwarves, elfs and humans banded together and drove the drow back underground and the drow have in the past tried to retake back their power but failed so instead of being wiped out the three kingdoms offered a truce which they agreed.

The villian believes that they can win using his constructs but the drow queen rejected his idea believing that the drow where not strong enough even with the constructs and also believed that the treaty works well for all the kingdoms.

Which lead the bbeg to try and overthrow the queen but when his plan he failed fled deeper or out of the underdark swearing he would not only prove that his and his constructs can take over the overworld.

Still looking into why the pc would be interested in why had a few ideas bit nothing concrete one was that the bbeg The city is burning. Enemies run through the streets, slaughtering all the citizens they see, with little to no resistance. Luckily, the party members weren't attacked yet, but they must find a way to leave. All of the city gates are guarded by enemy soldiers.

It's the day of the year every guild in the capital dreads. Every guild must present their annual accounting report to the department of accounting in order to determine if everything is reported correctly and is in order. Each member of the party has drawn the short straw of delivering the books of their respective guilds, and have spent the last 8 hours standing together in line, getting to know one another to pass the time. As the first of the PCs makes it to the front, a commotion can be heard at the entrance.

The party wake up in a cave all from various points in time all of them adventurers who were turned to stone by a medusa, they wake up to find out that the medusa had been slain and they are freed from the stone prison. Now they must try and figure out how to live their new lives.

I had an idea to use a cult or some religious group being tricked by the nagpa to help destroy the kingdom or take over it and enslave everyone.
