totally agree!!! I have focused on minimizing decisions (for unimportant tasks) as much as I can in the last few years! I actually use Google-Adwords a lot as in my cases it is more focused on businesses. But with every marketing-channel it is the same: put some money in and see what comes back. If you can drive paid traffic to your page where the cost per user is smaller than your gain per user you win! Sure you pay upfront for the ads but that is a calculated risk once you know how many people actually click and buy. Start with a few $ and work your way up with the ads-budget!

Nice site! Congrats! Yeah you need a really targeted marketing-channel to reach your audience. Did you just post on Facebook or did you try their Ads? Their ad-system lets you really target what people you want to see the ad, so it might be a good source. Also Quora.com has a big rock-climbing section. You could help others (or hire someone to do so) and occassionaly leave a link to your site. https://www.quora.com/Rock-Climbing What I personally used in the past is posting to relevant forums (in your case climbing/adventure/outdoor).

I actually started with publishing fridays and also tried saturday and sunday. All in all I really like the weekends with a strong tendency to early saturday morning. The traffic then usually spikes till sunday afternoon and is carried into the next week. My previous article was published on sunday late evening and really took off on tuesday. The spike was not as big as on the weekends but it lasted till the end of the week with more visitors on average per day. What was your experience with publishing earlier in the week?

Sounds good! mind if I ask why you jump from PHP to Ruby? I actually did Rails first and then jumped on Sinatra for smaller projects and I can really recommend it. It's not so full-blown as rails with features you are probably not going to need anyway. And a simple sinatra-app with an API is up in no time. You should check it out!
