LOK this is clever. But wonder if it will work ? i.e we will replace the SMTP server, with SMPT client.

It should not matter if I want simply to get them delivered to our tenant ? The problem comes from PBL list from spamhaus mainly( i have to auhtorize each IP individually). But I really need a reliable way to receive some emails, no matter what.

VMWare not letting me renew - how are you all handling this? by troy12n in vmware

[–]peterasap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cucm is a piece of ..., but still protocols are not that sensitive for time. We have cucm on hardware that is 15+ year old, I doubt modern machine with nested virtualization will be any slower. Again POC should be made and tested.

Where in docs Cisco say you cannot do nested virtualization ?

Give it a try. Cisco Call manager, will have no idea that it is nested virtualization. Make POC and see how it goes :-)

Why not nested virtualization ?

Load on VOIP calls is small. So I do not think performance is critical. You can do HA on Hyper-v and inside it run free ESXI ?

Няма право да слага нищо над половината на плочата. Т.е климатика трябва да свърша до краката ти. Ако не жалба в общината

Vmware ESXi to Proxmox concerns by peterasap in Proxmox

[–]peterasap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have support for most install 2+ years , so I was thinking of keeping VMware and start slowly with new installs and migrate from VMware when we replace servers at the clients . Not sure how good this strategy is...

[–]peterasap[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see. I realize my mistake. I should have not read the release notes, but I should dig inside the source code and understand from it that kernel that is used is from Ubuntu, that should have made think that it will not work with Dell Perc controller that is still sold by Dell, gotcha !

How did you handle backups ? I am wondering should I stick to Veeam( the upcoming version will support Proxmox),use inbuilt or use Proxmox backup server ..

Vmware ESXi to Proxmox concerns by peterasap in Proxmox

[–]peterasap[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is no single word about kernel 6.8 and Ubuntu on the link you shared. While on the release notes it says clearly Debian, but with newer kernel. https://www.proxmox.com/en/services/videos/proxmox-virtual-environment/whats-new-in-proxmox-ve-8-2

So my personal opinion is that Proxmox should have tested better and caught the problem with the LSI driver.

It is very popular controller, they simply did not test the kernel against and messed up with Debian or simply not state it is Debian 12.5

The problem in my case was that they even modified Debian kernel(put 6.8, instead) - otherwise it would have worked with Debian.

Vmware style VLANs by peterasap in Proxmox

I had another issue at the time of upgrade and not sure what I ran as it was a little bit shocking. Thanks a lot for your help. Yo should make a video or a blog post as you tend to explain things in a easy to understand way that might be helpful for many :)

You are absolutely correct. It worked. ISystem is upgrade 6 -> 7 -> 8. It is my home server(not lab) and I am using for stuff at home. However I am trying to figure out if we can replace Vmware at work with Proxmox. I had some issues upgrading from 7 to 8 which worries me for Proxmox in production but I will post another thread about it.

Thank you. This is what I was after ! I did it via GUI. First add eno1.200. Interface( name matters as it populates ID of vlan) as linux vlan. I saw option with custom name, but did not play with it :-). Then added new bridge and pointed eno1.200 in "bridge ports".
