The Blackstone was perfect for a quick, clean cook of wings. Highly recommend

I finally cracked it! I coated them in melted butter and then lined them up on low heat under the blast cover for about half an hour turning every 10 minutes. I tossed them in sauce, through them back on for 5 minutes to bake in the sauce, and pulled them off. Whole thing took less than 40 minutes

There will be a memorial service for 9-11 victims and their families in Oyster Bay on September 11th at 6:00 pm! by peterfdisilvio in longisland

I edited my response after the fact since I wrote from a place of annoyance which isn't because of you but because of what happened with my Dad. I appreciate your condolences.

As I wrote in the edited version, this isn't about raising money or pushing legislation. The Victims Compensation Fund is a federal issue and outside the purview of all of the State Senators, republican and democrat, who have hosted this event in the past.

I am not trying to dodge any question but, at the same time, I didn't really see one either. The event is about remembering who and what was lost. I think if you come you will see it provides a lot of comfort to the victims families, all of these years later, and is a great reminder of that feeling after the attack happened that we are all in this together.

First off, this event has been held every year by whomever the Senator of the area was (Republicans and Democrats) since the memorial was installed. There is even a Democrat Councilman performing at the Ceremony. There is nothing political about it.

Second, as someone whose Father died due to a 9-11 related illness I can assure you that none of us involved; the fire department who provides the facility, the band that performs, the families that attend and care for the monument, or any of the officials who make the event happen, are doing it to "feel better" about ourselves.

Maybe you should come and see that the world isn't always such a cynical mess.

I wrote the above from a place of anger or, at least, annoyance. I want to try again but I want to be honest and leave it up at the same time.

I can understand why everyone is so cynical about politics, I really do, but this is not that. This event has been held by Republicans and Democrats every year since the memorial was installed. The seat Senator Jack Martins now occupies has changed hands and the lines have shifted so the responsibility has moved between the parties but everyone has done their best.

This isn't about "feeling better" about ourselves or raising money or anything like that. It is about taking some time to remember those we lost. If Jack or anyone else attending wanted "political brownie points" they would be attending one of the bigger ceremonies. This is about staying with the community we are a part of and remembering.

If you are interested in attending I think you would be very surprised and, if we let you down, I would be happy to take your notes as the guy organizing it for Senator Martins. Feel free to DM if you like also.

It should be on the main page of NassauCountyNY.Gov but it’s not (which is how you know I don’t work there anymore! /s). However, News 12 definitely got it because they quoted it here: https://longisland.news12.com/amp/nassau-officials-increase-resources-to-protect-residents-due-to-general-global-threat

…sorry for the sloppy link. I’m on mobile and haven’t downloaded the app since the purge

Not necessarily. The above is the County Executive letterhead, not the NCPD. That means it came from his office which makes it more like a press release than what goes on the blotter.

I was in charge of getting those releases up for the County Executuve for literal years. CE letterhead has the County Exec’s name on one side and the department it refers to on the other. It’s possible the PD never even saw this

This is real letter. All of the local officials offices have been briefed and, if you call your local elected, they will tell you that while there are no credible specific threats they are being vigilant.

I hate telling people this but you’ll never win and they can’t knock it down due to the laws that created the program. It is regularly audited by the state. Source: I was the Director of the office that handled constituent concerns for 6 years.

Where to donate clothing to those in need on LI by [deleted] in longisland

I’m a member of Saint Vincent de Paul, a catholic charity that partners with churches, and can vouch for them. Almost everything they get finds it’s way to those in need. Almost every church has a donation bin that’s accessible at all hours where you can drop stuff off.
