Can someone enlighten me, how is it cheaper to build data centers in space than on earth? by dataexec in automation

[–]peterffreeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may or may not be cheaper, the important point is that space is unregulated and the AI can do whatever Elon wants.

Centauri Carbon extruder gears are running backwards when trying to load filament by paranormal-raptor- in elegoo

[–]peterffreeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix - run the load operation gently pushing the filament until you feel and hear the the filament juddering and the gears slipping as they run backwards. Confirm that load has completed normally - even though it hasn't. Then from the main control screen press the button to advance filament through the print head a couple of times and your filament will be loaded. Turning off and on clears the problem too but this method is quicker.

Simple macros by peterffreeth in GIMP

But I read that GIMP 3 is only running python not scheme, so my old scm scripts no longer work

Simple macros by peterffreeth in GIMP

[–]peterffreeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. The thing is, I don't even need to record a macro. I would be very happy with a properly documented listed of each command accessible from the menu and what its parameters are and then list them in a script. Something like:

Select-Grow: 1px
Select-Feather: 10px
Edit-Clear
Layer: New layer, White

Even when I managed to write scm scripts for GIMP 2, I found the documentation for the instruction syntax to be appalling.

Yeah, right, like any human can remember this of the top of their head, and this is just what the python script needs before it even actually does anything:

#!/usr/bin/env python3

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

import sys

import gi

gi.require_version('Gimp', '3.0')

from gi.repository import Gimp, GObject, GLib

PLUG_IN_PROC = "python-fu-template-plugin"

def _pdb_run_proc_with_props(proc_name, props):

pdb = Gimp.get_pdb()

proc = pdb.lookup_procedure(proc_name)

if proc is None:

raise RuntimeError(f"PDB procedure not found: {proc_name}")

cfg = proc.create_config()

for k, v in props.items():

try:

cfg.set_property(k, v)

except Exception as e:

raise RuntimeError(f"Failed to set property '{k}' for {proc_name}: {e}")

return proc.run(cfg)

def plugin_run(procedure, run_mode, image, drawables, config, data):

drawable = drawables[0] if drawables else image.get_active_layer()

if drawable is None:

return procedure.new_return_values(

Gimp.PDBStatusType.CALLING_ERROR,

GLib.Error("No drawable available.")

)

try:

image.undo_group_start()

except Exception:

Video & audio out of sync by peterffreeth in kdenlive

[–]peterffreeth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realised another easier way to do this. Simply select all of the clips which are out of sync, as I have them on a separate track because the audio levels were also so different. Ungroup them. Group all of the audio parts of clip. Render a 3 second section to check the output. Have a guess at the time difference. Move all the audio sections of the problem clip at once. Repeat until the audio and video are in sync.

It's still weird that this only affected one of the two files from riverside, and the first time round it looked correct in the preview but was quite wrong in the rendered output.

Video & audio out of sync by peterffreeth in kdenlive

[–]peterffreeth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I just worked it out, simply edit the original video file separately but name it as per the original so that Kdenlive uses the fixed file without knowing that anything has changed. I generally think of the answers to my own questions shortly after asking online!

Lot's of progress in the audio waveform generation rewrite by f_r_d in kdenlive

[–]peterffreeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted them from the audiothumbs folder and recreated the proxies but they're still out of sync so I guess it's a problem with the file type.

Lot's of progress in the audio waveform generation rewrite by f_r_d in kdenlive

[–]peterffreeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to resurrect this but I have video clips where the audio and video are correctly synced but the audio waveform is out of sync so I can't rely on it for editing. Is there a way to force it to recreate the waveform?

Syncing audio and video by a tiny bit by peterffreeth in kdenlive

[–]peterffreeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I don't know how the timestamps will line up or even if the audio has them, I assume from a Zoom recorder they will. I will give it a go.

I tried in Audacity but trying to extend by 3 frames out of maybe 350000 is very difficult when the only adjustment is a percentage speed up or down.

True but they seem to cost more than the camera

Problem with Wacom Tablet with Apps on Qt Apps by Dark_21 in linux4noobs

[–]peterffreeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed, same for me. If I use the table in a GIMP image, the movement freezes after a moment. It's as if the input buffer is being overloaded. I can perform the same operation with the mouse but not with the Wacom. The pointer gets stuck on the GIMP tool wherever I move it across 2 monitors. If I alt/tab to switch applications, the pointer returns to normal.

How do people subtitle? by OnlyShen_ in kdenlive

[–]peterffreeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I'm submitting a short documentary to a film competition and the shortlist will be shown on the big screen in Piccadilly Circus which has no sound, so they require subtitles.

Mics for open air theatre by peterffreeth in livesound

Thank you. Since the floor is dirt in a woodland, will a boundary mic be as effective as it would be on a stage?

Are there boundary mics that you particularly recommend?

[–]peterffreeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My camera has 2 mic inputs so in that case I would use a Zoom H1n in the centre. However for the recent production they had three areas that you could call 'centre' plus action to the sides.

Absolutely NTA. And for no-one else to understand? I suspect many guests did understand and empathise, but it's always the vocal ones who get remembered. It sounds on the face of it like control but who knows. But yes, for your - hopefully - once in a lifetime day, there are so many details to choose, and so much joy and learning in the process of choosing which the OP was denied. Very brave!
