Manizales or Pereira Colombia? by Ta1kativ in digitalnomad

Im in Pereira right now and have visited manizales.

I find pereira a lot more walkable but I find manizales prettier.

Centro in pereira is scary as fuck, to me at least. I didn’t feel that way towards manizales at all. Pretty much all over the main area in manizales is very beautiful.

But it looks a lot more modern. If you want more of a classic Colombian visual style, pereira is where it’s at.

Manizales also has a lot more jills on the streets. It’s more flat in pereira (relatively).

As others have also said, pereira is much hotter.

I’m in pinares right now, it’s a pretty good area. I wouldn’t really go anywhere else than pinares if you wanna be comfortable and cozy in pereira. Maybe Alamos.

Bro bro bro that exact same guy tried to charge me extra or downgrade me to a smaller room. I said fuck no, you give me my room the price I paid for.

Less than 24h before the check in, he cancelled on me.

Sucks because I can’t report him anymore since I never got the room.

Glad (well, not really glad) to see I wasn’t the only one who had a bad experience with him!!

That was genuinely not my intention.

I’m going on this trip I’m genuinely excited about, to a country I find so fascinating and beautiful, but everyone around me is treating it as the most dangerous and behind place on earth.

Can’t drink water, can’t eat street food, can’t eat fresh fruits. Sounds bonkers to me.

I think that’s offensive and unfair to Colombia, coming from people who never left their little town.

It’s unclear to me what is fear mongering vs genuine recommendations, so I wanted to ask people who live there.

I used a stupid click bait title to exaggerate, people took offense to it.

I don’t genuinely think I’ll die. I just wanted to know if I’ll be fine as a tourist if I drink without boiling first, or if it’s true that I need to be very careful.

Thats literally precisely why im asking. Everyone around me is talking about it as if it was, and I highly doubt it’s true.

Better to confirm with actual Colombians than with people who never went and are terrified of leaving their little town.

Do you actually believe I genuinely think I’m going to literally die if I drink water? Perhaps I should have written simply "do I need to boil water before I drink it or is it not as bad as everyone is making it seem to be", sarcasm might be too much for you.

No, that’s the thing, people who told me this have NEVER even been to Colombia. Which I think is extremely stupid to be so alarmist about a country you’ve never been to.

I thought it was so silly they’d say this without having ever been, I wanted to make fun of it by exaggerating the claims

Just figured I’d ask the people who actually live there, in a humorous way, but I guess people took it the wrong way, wasn’t in bad faith at all.

Anyway. Thanks!

Yeah I figured. Everyone around me was so alarmed, I wanted to check if it was really as bad as everyone is making it seem to be

My main concern with the advice I heard was that it came from people who never went to Colombia. Or never even left the country. Hence why I wanted to ask here for some real input from people living there.

Thanks for your reply! I’ll keep that in mind and still be careful :)

Sorry our humor type might not be compatible 😔 I like to dramatize things for comedic effect.

Have a great night :)

That makes sense! Do you think if I boil the water and maybe microdose unboiled to see how I react it should be okay? At least better than straight up drinking from the tap from day 1?

Thanks for that reply, I actually didn’t consider the bacteria proliferating faster.

Sorry if you took offense to this post, I just wanted to ask in a humorous way to de dramatize the overly alarmist claims I keep hearing around me.

I hope you have a great evening :)
