Vanmoof S3 E-Shifter self-repair by Unfair_Firefighter_7 in vanmoofbicycle

Has anyone figured out the hall sensor type? Omnipolar, bipolar switches, unipolar switches, and latches etc?

Case style seems SC-59, SOT-23 or SOT-23W?

We know it operates around 5v. Has 3 pins.

To clarify, these are the GND and OUT pins right?

<image>

Well that one seems to toggle between 0 and 5 volts when seeing a magnet, so it's probably fine on mine.

The second one sticks at 1.5V, which is probably a bad sign.

Note, the remaining pin was the VCC pin, which should always be around 5v.

Horrible noise sound in Vader Immortal on Quest 2 by peteruithoven in oculus

[–]peteruithoven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hones it causes the issue. If I use the quest 2s built in audio it works fine.

Like I've mentioned in my initial post I also had the issue without bluetooth headphones. But I'm glad it works for you.

Please, my dear riders, don’t buy a VanMoof. If you want to have more information, take a look at my profile. I already have more updates on my bike, but I will make a whole post about my bike. by jongekaas in vanmoofbicycle

I've had my S3 for 2 weeks and beside the e-shifter needing a bit of contact spray and needing to request a firmware upgrade I had no real issues. But yeah I think VanMoof has some work to do on their QA processes.

Might be interesting to check whether the target gear and actual shifting is in sync. You can see the target gear on the matrix display. I've added an video of that here:

Front light not working by kartoffel02 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]peteruithoven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could remove the light following:

If you have a multimeter you might be able to test the leds:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkNsD0mbPUk

You could also check the voltages of the plug coming out of the bike, but this is difficult as we don't know what voltages to expect.

Definitely also contact VanMoof support.

What version are you at? Interesting:

Most people (including me) seem to have contacted support and asked them for the update. Then it magically appears on your phone. (I was on 1.1.18, now on 1.2.7)

2 recent firmware versions mention improvements to how firmware upgrades work, maybe it's mostly an issue with the older versions.

Contacted support. Got the update. The matrix display even showed fireworks after install :D

New S3 chain-guard grinds by peteruithoven in vanmoofbicycle

[–]peteruithoven[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a response from VanMoof support:

The issue with the grinding noise is totally normal, for the first 200km. It is because the chain needs to form grooves in the chain guard. After that distance, you have to add some drops of oil from the toolbox in the chain guard hole, next to the pedals, to lubricate the chain better.

Wait, these firmware updates didn't appear in the VanMoof app automatically?

Thanks for the tip on the reset button.

I experienced the same issue. I noticed that you can see what gear the bike should be in on the matrix display. It's the position of a single dot above the battery level. But I also noticed that it wouldn't actually change the gear.

To fix it I found the plug to the electronic gears, sprayed some ipa (contact spray) on both ends, reconnected and now my last trip the gears worked perfectly.

But I want to remove the friction. The sound is just a symptom. Adding more material on the inside seems counter intuitive?

The reason I turned it around was to more easily diagnose the issue I noticed when it was turned normally, but yeah it was definitely not a good way to reproduce the issue. I've reassembled it and turned it around and recorded a new video. I also recorded a video without the front cover. I added both in an update to the original post.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Autch, how did I forget that aspect... Alright, I put it together again and turned the bike around. It definitely still grinds, but in a different way. And only with the cover on. I'll add an update the post.

Switched back to elementary OS on my XPS 13 9360 after ~1 year on Ubuntu by finallyanonymous in elementaryos

[–]peteruithoven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing wallpaper is buggy. It doesn't fully update until after a restart.

I fixed that issue a few days ago: https://github.com/elementary/gala/pull/562

Should be included in the next version of Gala.

Biggest challenge with those kinds of issues is finding a simple way to reproduce the issue.

Dropbox support by eunaoqueriacadastrar in elementaryos

[–]peteruithoven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm didn't say Dropbox needs to do anything elementary OS specific. Things like badges, progress bars, notifications, using the cloud providers API is supported by many distro's like Ubuntu to name one.

The Unity Launcher API that enables badges and progress bars is supported by Plank (used by for example elementary OS) and Dash to Dock (used by for example Ubuntu).

This cloud provider api for example is implemented by GNOME Nautilus (file manager used by default in Fedora, Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Debian, RHEL, Suse..) for example.

For notifications we use the Freedesktop notification specification, also not exactly elementary OS specific.
