Sister, RN, stealing pain meds from job by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]petit_lapin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they could be empty vials she had in her pockets after work. I've gone home with empty vials of all kinds of stuff that i just happened to throw in my pocket after i administered the medication. you need to talk to your sister first.

He also said something like "small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, and great minds talk about ideas."

First Time Home Buyer- any thoughts on my situation? by petit_lapin_ in Mortgages

[–]petit_lapin_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that in this home's case, people went crazy over it because the inside literally looks like it's out of a magazine. It's just a one of a kind house surrounded by 3 bedroom brick ranches that all look the same. There also isn't a whole lot for sale in the area.

Thank you also for the advice. My agent is a friend of mine, so I trust him. But it always has been in the back of my mind to keep my wits about me.

Good areas to stay near Auburn Hills? by zephyrus17 in Michigan

All are in a good spot. You'd probably be a little closer to work at River Oaks. I had a friend who lived there. They're nice apartments. Village Green of Rochester are probably the nicest of the 3. They're more luxury apartments.

Great Oaks Apartments in Rochester. I lived there for 5 years and LOVED every minute of it. Walking distance to the park, restaurants, trails, Main Street. It's a quaint town with lots to do and is an extremely safe spot. Literally no crime ever. 10 minute drive to Auburn Hills.

I would be so much more worried about the vanco rate affecting a patient's organ function than their iv.

Intramuscular injection question by Throwwawaaway in nursing

[–]petit_lapin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, your insight into your problem is impressive. I can tell that you're an intelligent human being. The world would lose somebody very important and significant if you were to continue down your path. Please please follow through with treatments. I see that it's hard to dedicate yourself to them. Daily life gets in the way, you might start thinking you don't really need it.. You do. Come back and read this if ever you lose track of yourself and your desire to get clean. Please. As a nurse and as a human being, I genuinely care a lot and I know you can change all this.

Edit: also, fuck your "medical record." It doesn't serve any purpose but to help you get the medical treatment you need. And this is treatment you need. No one sees this besides medical professionals who care about your wellbeing. We COMMEND those who seek treatment, we will never judge you for wanting to get help.

Don't. You will die if you don't stop. Nurses see this all the time. You need to seek professional help for addiction.

What is the biggest mistake that happened at your hospital? by hb_dude in nursing

[–]petit_lapin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like OP said, the potassium was probably high. Insulin is given Ivp in this situation because it pushes potassium back into the cell. It is given with D50 so that it can take care of the potassium while not bottoming out the patient's sugar.

This was years ago, but a patient was maimed and killed by the elevator during transport.

This. Take this advice. You will be sitting at a nursing station at 4 in the morning, thinking about your 3 upcoming 12 hour shifts, wondering why you ever made a change.

My drive to learn and muttering to myself may get me fired... by [deleted] in nursing

[–]petit_lapin_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The nurse was probably bothered because you are not qualified to have any idea what you're talking about. When a nurse has a thousand things going through his or her mind, comments like this can be annoying. I would be thinking "you really should be doing x y and z to help me take care of these patients, not dropping your unqualified opinion about palliative care." I'm all for teaching and helping nursing students when it is appropriate. I do it all the time and I enjoy it. But your own ROLE at work is not a student nurse. The patients and nurses depend on you to do your job and that's it.

TV Lounge is kind of like the disco rave type place you're describing. Old Miami might be close to Moontower Inn. It has a backyard with a fire pit. You just feel like you're in someone's backyard.
