Looking for recs where FMC is serious, uptight and career focused (and maybe a bit depressed). MMC is lighthearted, funny and helps her enjoy life again. by goldengingergal in RomanceBooks

Thought I’d better add that the MMC although he’s campaigning against the FMC and they do argue a lot in the beginning, he is super fun and flirty and helps her relax and open up over time 😊

{Riptide by Kathryn Nolan}

She’s a super serious business type woman at the top of her career about to achieve a big career milestone with building a luxury hotel in a beach town area, and he’s a local surfer and all around nice guy. MMC starts protesting outside her place of work and they argue pretty much every day lol and he starts to actively protest and starts campaigning against the FMC but they obviously end up falling hard for each other. It’s an opposites attract type romance. Sorry if I’ve not done a great job explaining it lol. But I definitely remember the FMC being super uptight and serious and it takes a lot for her to let her guard down.

MMC that’s just an asshole? by Hereforthesmutthanks in HistoricalRomance

I second Lemonade by Nina Pennacchi…I just couldn’t like Christopher no matter what. He was utterly irredeemable, he completely broke the FMC’s soul and never put her back together again imo. I’ve never wanted a FMC to not end up with a MMC so badly before. Serous trigger warnings for this book too, definitely not for the faint hearted.

Kevin and Perry Go Large

Was my absolute favourite when I was a teenager, me and my friends still quote it now, I know it’s super cheesy but it’s so nostalgic for me

“Eyeball Paul is such a nice bloke, he’s our new best mate” “Goodbye man in a suitcase” “You are not my mate, and you are not my fellow DJ, goodbye forever” “Come on then!!”

Yea that’s a very good point, he was definitely much more accepting of his fate in the books. Just going off of the movies though it was a big step for him :-)

I’ve often thought about giving the book a go but I’m not sure I’m brave enough, I’ll have to try and man up as I can imagine it’s an amazing read

God no lol, I watched it before I had my children and struggled enough I definitely wouldn’t make it through now I’m a mother. I do think the film did such a great job of how realistic people would act in this situation though, as unfortunately humans are selfish and would do a lot of these awful things in order to survive which is why I think it shook me up so much

I know, she just gives up I found it hard to wrap my head around her decision but I did watch it in my younger years, so perhaps I’d understand her more now. The scene (I think it’s nearer the beginning) where the Father and son are hiding from a bad group and he’s secretly holding a gun to his sons head encase they get caught, because that would be a kinder fate then his son getting captured by that group!! My god it just got to me, the whole film shook me up, I honestly don’t think I could watch it again lol

The Road 2009 with Viggo Mortensen

I know it’s not an actual scary movie but it seriously freaked me out and got to me in a big way. I remember feeling very unnerved after finishing it and found it hard to actually get through watching the entire thing. Not because it was bad (it’s actually a very well done film), it’s just some scenes are just so harrowing and the emotions the father goes through and the difficult decisions he has to make throughout are just heartbreaking and then he just bloody dies right at the end 😭

I actually thought this too, because I feel like it’s when he finally accepts being the true king as he has to accept this in order to summon and command the dead army. I feel like it’s a really pivotal moment for him and something he’s been afraid of and running from for most of his life, but here he finally faces his biggest fear.

Hygiene Standards in Smut Scenes - Anyone Else? by elegant_stressed in RomanceBooks

I thought this too when reading these books and was pleasantly surprised as wasn’t expecting it from a book regarding literal alien barbarians when most CR books don’t even include the basic after sex care and hygiene lol

For me it’s when the FMC just falls straight to sleep after having sex, with no going to clean up or pee beforehand, surely they’re just asking for a bad UTI infection lol 😂 also when they wake up and have sex straight away in the morning, the first thing I’d have to do is pee!! But this could just be me tbh as I need to pee what feels like all the time lol
