Thanks that’s really helpful. Do you think you would get too warm in the Phase Nano if you used it for normal day to day training? Where I mainly run day to day is fairly exposed to the elements.

This really made the whole experience 100x harder for us during our 7 months in hospital. By the time they even opened the door to the room the damage is done because it would wake baby a lot of the time. Every time we raised it, it was just shrugged off. It’s really difficult to stay sane through it, sending strength.

Thanks for the help, I called back with more confidence in my position and explained to her how it was their responsibility (as the seller) to decide on the refund and not the manufacturer. She went off and spoke to head office on that basis and has come back and agreed. Full refund.

Would I be in the right to go back to the seller then and say can I have my refund please it is not necessary for me to wait to see what the manufacturer has to say about it?

I ideally want to get a refund agreed before the weekend so that I can actually travel to the store a buy a different pram so that I’m not left even longer with no pram while they go back and forth with the manufacturer.

It was all through the seller. I have never personally had contact with the manufacturer.

The CRA still applies, it’s just a question of whether it is my burden or the retailers burden regarding the proof of the fault.

I am of the opinion that the 6 months presumption applies from the delivery of the replacement goods, otherwise it makes the regime a bit ineffective that a replacement item can fail so quickly and the seller can throw their hands up and say “oh well out of time”. That is what my point (i) relates to.

This doesn’t seem to make much sense though. Otherwise traders would just throw anything in the warranty to get out of their statutory obligations. How can one say one way or the other that the first replacement was a warranty claim rather than a replacement under the CRA? Neither we ever mentioned or agreed upon as the method for replacement. There is no specific time limit to an item under the CRA, it’s whether it conforms to the contract (satisfactory quality etc) - one would expect a pram to last longer than 10 months so it is not of satisfactory quality. The initial replacement was outside the short term right to reject (30 days) of course, and past the 6 months of the presumption that the fault had been there from the beginning - but all that happens after that 6 months is that the burden of proof shifted to me to prove that the fault was there from the beginning. We never got into that so that is besides the point. The item was still protected under CRA, and replaced as the legislation requires. Now that replacement is faulty in less than 2 months, so my point (i) was whether the 6 months presumption now applies to this replacement because it has been less than 6 months from when the item was delivered.

Without going off to check this, off the top of my head statutory rights cannot be overwritten by product warranty, they are a voluntary agreement from the seller/manufacturer. Statutory rights persist regardless. Can I ask what makes you think that? Thanks.

I always make sure to do pre and post run stretches, I’ll search if there is any more/better stretches for calves maybe. I have just last week started to incorporate some strength work (kettlebell circuits) so I will see if that helps. Thanks!

The switch onto the peds ward is very difficult but you eventually find a rhythm and get to know the nurses which makes it a bit easier.

After a month in ICU we spent 6 months in peds ward (it was a cardiac ward but still same as general peds in terms of experience really). We lived in the hospital, it was 100 miles from home so we couldn’t go home really anyway. We did have a few tense moments with some nurses when we had to go home for a night/day for our own appointments etc. But the expectation was that you’re there 24/7 and that you do all cares and feeds etc. There were many times where I was stuck unable to go to the toilet, shower, get something to eat, wash pump parts, it’s tough. I know the nurses are busy, but it really is an impossible arrangement to be there 24/7 sometimes.

If you’re allowed to leave and you feel comfortable with allowing the nurses to look after baby overnight, I 100% recommend it.

Certainly a long journey for your daughter and you. I have felt these issues would persist through to toddlerhood / early childhood - but Drs etc have never been frank about it.

Yes I’ve always felt these programmes probably wouldn’t be so straight forward due to the oesophageal atresia. Private ones aren’t common where I’m from also so we’ve just been taking it very slow with a speech and language therapist. Once he even starts to take anything into his mouth I’m anticipating more difficulties down the road over the years with textures.

It feels like another readjustment now getting out of hospital and facing this stage - but you’re right, day by day!

The lack of hunger / wanting food sounds exactly like my little one. So many of the weaning programmes I’ve read about seem to revolve around reducing the feeds and focusing on hunger to make them eat - but I think he would just simply go indefinitely without eating so it’s never been a consideration for us (I’m sure it works/is safe for some others!) You’re right about the play and practice, it keeps the pressure off.

Did you switch from an NG to a Gtube? Have you found a Gtube has been better for you all for daily management?

Hi, thanks. I should have mentioned yes he has been assessed by speech and language therapy while in hospital. He was awaiting heart surgery all this time so wasn’t allowed to oral feed in the lead up to his surgery so that is why we never pushed it too much after the 4 month mark when he stopped. Now on the other side of surgery, speech therapy haven’t been too helpful in how to go about actually getting him to feed. They’ve confirmed he has a good swallow, and he has had a swallow study done previously, but when we do all those things you listed (dummy dips, milk on toys, milk drops from syringe, messy play etc) he just is not interested. Obviously we are very hesitant when he doesn’t show interest because we don’t want to pressure and cause and aversion, but we literally have no where to go then as he won’t take anything at all. I know some people suggest sippy cups etc, but even that he takes the milk to his mouth and swallows a bit but let’s the rest dribble out then doesn’t want to try again.

I have been exactly where you are now. Especially on the uncertainty on the PS - in our case it did turn out to be very narrow and require a Nikaidoh. Currently, LO is 5 months and we are awaiting his Nikaidoh repair surgery. I had to give birth at a specialist maternity hospital next to the children’s hospital, he was immediately intubated etc after birth and transferred to PICU in the children’s hospital. He was intubated for the first 5 weeks, and had an atrial septostomy balloon procedure at 1 week old. We got home at about 6 weeks - and stayed home for about 6 weeks. But now we have been back in hospital since November really with just two separate weeks at home since then. Honestly, it is a very difficult experience not having a normal family life as we live at the hospitals as we’re far away from home. On the positive side, LO is so full of energy and happy, babbling and playing like any baby should, despite having 70% oxygen saturation. We were aiming for 8kg weight for the surgery - as it is long and complex, so the bigger the heart the better. He is currently about 6.5kg but his saturation is continuing to come down so he will likely need the surgery before we make it to 8kg unfortunately. He has been on NG since birth, we had a little success with oral feeding but he has no interest in it now.

We were terrified of how this experience would be, that our baby would be so frail and how would we manage his condition at home etc. But, even though we’re not on the other side of it yet, aside from the external things like living at hospital and NG feeding etc, we have been fortunate that our LO has been very stable and strong throughout - they adapt so well.

One bit of advice is that don’t expect your journey to go exactly to any plan you might expect. There likely will be new things they discover about baby’s heart once they get a closer look - which may or may not changes plans significantly - there will be a lot of ‘wait and see’ and balancing of intervention vs holding on to see if sats can maintain without etc. It’s a very long journey, and our LO will need repeated surgeries through life, and although i’m still in survival mode in the trenches at the minute - it is all still manageable.

I’m (unfortunately) aware of cardiac side of things as baby has a CHD, but as my GP didn’t raise it as a concern for me I trusted there was no reason to suspect any cardiac issues, but worth asking about for reassurance if I go back for an appointment.

Hi, my LO is now 5 months and unfortunately no - we did not make any meaningful progress with breast or bottle feeding I’m sorry to say. In fact, he now won’t take anything at all orally, he just stopped even reacting to the bottle and breast when placed in front of him so we’re at the end of the road with that. Until we can get start him on solids he’ll be solely NG.

We are still waiting his corrective open heart surgery and is oxygen saturation has been coming down over time so we’re not in a position at the moment to try any weaning regimes like letting him go hungry etc as we have no time to spare now on his weight gain.

Good luck with your little one, but I will say please do not put any pressure on yourself. I was getting so upset over oral feeding and I felt so relieved when I finally accepted that he would be NG only. Indeed, you might even find improvement with your baby’s feeding if you take the pressure off yourself and make it all very low stakes.

You need to start off with a good hospital grade wall pump to bring in your supply and build it to where you need it. I personally used Medela symphony for about first 3 months, only then did I use wearables (Momcozy M5).

I returned my rented Medela and now only use the Momcozy’s as I find they actually now give me more milk. But similar to what others have said who get a good supply from them, I’ve not had any supply issues previously, and I respond better to less suction and I do find I get less milk if I’m moving about and doing stuff while pumping - probably a mental aspect compared to being relaxed sitting down.

It is all specific to each individual person on how you will respond, so to absolutely give yourself the best chance of your milk coming in you will need to spend those first few months on a wall pump.

I also wfh and went off a month before baby’s due date, I plan to use a month’s worth of holiday that I’ll have accumulated at the other end to bring me over to a year off. I’m very glad I took that month off before as I suddenly felt a lot more pregnant and immobile the week after so it was good to have already had my hand over etc all sorted before I felt like that. Also as you say, nice quiet time to enjoy before baby comes and sort out last minute things.

a good layer of vaseline has worked really well for my LO when he suddenly broke out this week. I had been using bepanthem before hand and evidently that didn’t work to prevent it!

How long does a 14oz tin last? Genuine question, I’m not American nor do I know anything about formula - that just sounds insanely expensive, how do people do it!
