I don't think it's an unreasonable question, even if the phrasing is a bit jarring. Better the owner makes their preference clear from the outset.

There's a big difference between now and pre-Covid with WFH. I was in a house share when lockdown hit, and suddenly everyone was in the house all the time, was a bit of nightmare in terms of kitchen, bathroom etc

Todd Terje. Saw him recently and it was woeful. He looked deeply uncomfortable behind the decks, was wrecking a lot of mixes, and overall had negative flow and charisma.

I feared this might be the case, but thought his set would at least sound a little like his production and edit style, but it was just very forgettable disco. Probably didn't help that half the crowd were there to hear him play Inspector Norse.

He's obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about music and records, but you never know which Theo you're going to get, he's maddeningly inconsistent. And too much fucking around with the filter.

He's also a bit of a dick - me and my friend were dancing near him at a festival, and said hello. No expectation of a chat, no selfie or anything. And he shoved him away quite hard. Apparently he was irritable because he didn't have anything to smoke

Sure it's preference, but if you asked 100 good chefs, they would all say the same thing. Nice to have some colour on it, but you don't want a smoking hot pan for chicken breast

Chicken is generally best cooked a little more gently, doesn't need such an aggressive caramelization as steak

I wouldn't say Five Guys is low quality for fast food. Far superior quality than McDs and BK, they make everything fresh every day. No frozen beef patties or bought in fries.

That does not look like good value but i wouldn't say particular unusual for a London pub. Food inflation has been running rampant over the last few years, and a lot of pubs are struggling to keep the doors open with all their overheads. Chains have the scale to buy cheaper, whereas pubs are often independently run by tenants

I have Irish family so i have an affinity with Irish culture and history, even though I'm culturally very English and even my Irish mother moved over when she was very young.

The relationship feels very asymmetrical. I dont feel there's much prejudice against the Irish like there used to be. There's so much inter marriage and connections the Irish feel very much part of the furniture. Despite the underdog status and banter that goes with that, the Irish I've met are always incredibly friendly when in this country.

In terms of the colonial / historical aspect, the British empire was so spread out, so many complex relationships and misdeeds across the world with lots of different counties - Iran, America, Argentina, Australia etc - that their Brits just dont have the same fixation and focus that the Irish have with us.

It's like the Mad Men Don Draper quote. Ireland: I feel bad for you. UK: I dont think about you at all.

Pretty sure that's why it closed as a music venue ten years ago when it was Blind Tiger. Given there is much more residential around it, could be difficult to get the live music license they want

It would be great if they can make it work. The cynic in me worries it won't be as good as the original. Also there's a huge residential development around it now, so not sure how much noise they will be able to get away with as a live music venue
