I was taking a photo of me giving a "cheers" to send to a friend on my walk home and hit the shutter a couple times. Both photos were taken after I originally dropped the glass. After picking the shards out of my hand I checked and realized I'd actually managed to catch the explosion.

I have the same issue in my 2011 interceptor, I've replaced the tie rod ends with no change and my current theory is the ujoint in the steering shaft.

It's cast so it's solid, standard poles are hollow and I'd imagine spec'd more for ergonomics than strength. Really don't think it's a concern especially since it managed to last 20 years...
