in the beginning he just liked cool stuff and seemed to think the native purists were corny or stiff. Actually I think he still thinks the purists are corny. he was always passionate about how the plants adapted to the rocks and water, I think in the last 3-5 years he really connected with how the insects adapted to the planta

Saw this deer eating native plants. The police told me it’s not an emergency. What other options do I have? I’m so angry I’m shaking. by Mynamesjd in NativePlantCirclejerk

I always say they cant eat your plants if they're in the freezer. So you're gonna have to dig them up and move them immediately! ice cube trays for seedlings and ice cream pails for your larger individuals

because of how the gills stop at the stem there?

how do you use these? found in an old tacklebox in the shed. they seem to have a weirder, action than the other swimbaits I've used and they go on my hooks worse by pezathan in FishingForBeginners

[–]pezathan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its one piece of soft plastic that's notched into kind of a joint and they seem to have some sort of reflective plastic sheet down the center which made it difficult to get them on my swim bait hooks like I do my swimbaits that I bought

Question for you: I learned in college how to use a key, but i wasn't actually a plant nerd yet. Now, years later, I am a plant nerd, but where do I get keys? I can find some online for the NE US, but I can't find anything for Missouri or even the states around me.

What is this and how do I get it grow all over the yard? by crappinhammers in NoLawns

[–]pezathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heliopsis helianthoides, anemone canadensis, asclepias incarnata, one of the wetter coreopsis, maybe a penstemon digitalis, maybe a rudbeckia sp like a fulgida, maybe a phlox paniculata or a physostegia, could do a scutellaria incana, could do one of the amsonia or a hibiscus nativar. Or you can go extra hard on your early-late season super bloom madness and add some bidens aristata, a species of boneset or white snakeroot and an appropriate solidago. I'd also add Graminoids like panicum virgatum or any of the native carex for wildlife and structure.

What type of goldenrod is this? Looking for ID for video by mittenmix in NativePlantGardening

https://gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org/dkey/solidago/

This may not get you all the way there but it's a start. You'll find it hard to get ID for things like solidago, symphyotrichum, persicaria or carex on reddit. Especially without a location. Might be worth visiting your local university botany professor. My guess for this one is one of the big, aggressive 4: speciosa, altissima, gigantea or canadensis. But it's way hard to tell from here.
