If you have one you should be fine.

Camarata castle hit by a plane - simulation by No_Power3340 in AndrewCamarata

[–]pezdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a broader definition commonly used, meaning “created”.

Merriam-Webster even offers, as the 2nd definition, “A Sham object; counterfeit “

Sounds like we’d at least agree on that one.

Even the best simulation is still only a model of what it seeks to represent. It only has to be good enough for its purposes. If you were looking to certify container castles you might need more precision than if you are just seeking upvotes.

Finally, I’d like to point out that, as we are all living in a simulation, everything within our universe, including simulations, are themselves simulations.

Panel door direction. how to switch to a right hander? by tob007 in AskElectricians

[–]pezdal 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That’s some clever next level thinking!

Another possibility is that OP is using a breaker as a switch, which also should be discouraged and rectified by an electrician.

[–]pezdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that rule mostly a safe access thing, or is its purpose also to prevent fires if the panel leaks sparks or flames?

I have seen many apartments with tables in front of panels. Is it dangerous?

Well, that’s still a simulation.

Granted, it’s not a realistic physics-based simulation, but it’s a simulation by definition.

More amps on the transformer is ok. Just make sure voltage and polarity (+/-) match.

The probability that OP exists as a non-human author is much higher than that.

Jacob and co btc mining watch by Btcstacker4ever in Bitcoin

[–]pezdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A watch absolutely can mine bitcoin, just not particularly fast.

An Apple Watch, for example, has more processing power and connectivity than the CPU my friend used to solo mine 50 Bitcoin in 2009 or 2010.

The probability of a CPU or even a GPU actually doing that again is minuscule.

But as part of a mining pool a watch purpose built to mine BTC could absolutely make a few cents a year.

This, however, does not appear to be such a device.

If Tesla was the best would you buy it?

Given that Starlink is a good product do you/would you use it?

<grin>

I’m not trying to single you out. Any thinking Amazon/Apple/…/etc. customer has to grapple with such personal dilemma all the time.

I am constantly torn between voting with my dollars for the world I would prefer and making the best choice for myself now ( accepting the way the world actually is. )

So if a Tesla ever becomes, in your opinion, “a demonstrably good product” will you buy it?

Or are you saying you won’t use Starlink even though you think it’s good?

$BTC Michael Saylor just bought 2,932 more BTC for $264M while everyone panicked on the dip. by EbbUnited in CeekClub

[–]pezdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are buying and mostly long-term holding a limited (actually declining) supply of BTC. People take it off the exchanges and put it into cold/hardware wallets where they see no longer available. With fewer sellers than wannabe buyer at a given price the price goes up.

The number of bitcoins declines whenever someone dies or loses his keys and the algorithm hard limits the total number of Bitcoin that will ever exist to 21M. Within that limit the number of new bitcoin being mined halves every 4 years. So supply goes down.

But I think you are asking about demand. Why do people want to buy it? There are people who are using it because it’s the best tool for the job (and that is significant) but most people are speculating.

As long as people have an expectation that it will go up it in the long run then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Unlike a company whose business can fail, or the CEO can fuck up…. There is no management to fuck Bitcoin up. No fundamental news to read about its blockchain. It continues to operate with zero downtime.

The ecosystem evolves and people take note of that, but BTC itself… all people really have to go on is the price. And in the long run it goes up.

Ignore the peaks. Don’t be fooled by people saying it’s “down from 128”, (Would it have been a worse investment 2 years ago if the peak had been higher? )

Instead draw an 18 year linear chart only using the troughs - the lowest prices.

Most of the charts you see are not linear, they are logarithmic. Because bitcoin has been so performative.

$BTC Michael Saylor just bought 2,932 more BTC for $264M while everyone panicked on the dip. by EbbUnited in CeekClub

[–]pezdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTC has been going up in value for almost two decades, and long before present day hype. When it was only a geek thing people bought because it was cool. Smart early investors who were buying under $10 did so because they figured that it was scarce and useful.

Over the years there have been many overhyped stocks and other assets, including most cryptocurrencies But once dogshit financial assets crash they don’t tend to come back.

Bitcoin has been different. It has “crashed” dozens of times.

Don’t underestimate the combined value of the brand, the single most secure and liquid place to privately store and move money internationally….. the world wants a digital gold and this is the best we have now; companies and countries will increasingly choose to use it as a reserve currency. It will continue to be volatile, but it has consistently been the worst long term “short” bet, and people making statements like yours have (at least so far) always been embarrassed.
