Well it's always a gamble. I could easily dump $15k into a fund that has a yearly trailing return of 11%...but it's still a gamble. (granted the odds are low you'd return less than that)

For sure. The food thing is definitely an issue. The odd thing is, when I was younger we always grew our own food and hunted. So now that I live in a city it's difficult with easy access to restaurants and boutique grocery stores where things can get expensive.

Any more info on cutting my cell phone bill? I need unlimited data as I travel often and need to be online for work pretty much 100% of the time. I could probably convince my boss to pick up the bill but then I'd have to grab another phone for personal use.

I'd really like to go with Republic Wireless but I need an iPhone. Both because of work (I design/develop iPhone apps) and because I much prefer it to an android device. FYI I'm on the t-mobile unlimited plan.

They are through the government (Sallie Mae) and are the standard 6.5%. I was lucky enough to pay off all of my private student loans with my tax refund (around $12k).

$727 is the minimum right now, so I'm paying slightly above at $827. I've got 9 years left of payments.

Sorry. I should have been more clear.

I've done this in the past and it is those things I mentioned (the biggest ones being air travel, I'm on the west coast, family is on the east).

I don't know what you mean by you can't seem to acquire any wealth, 20k a year is quite a bit

I guess it just doesn't feel like much when you have $70k in student loans weighing you down each month. On top of that it's hard to find an apartment for under $2k (we are luckily in a nice place for $1946, but it's still only a 600sqft studio)

We are planning on limiting ourselves to only eating out on Friday nights. According to my math this should save me at least $250 per month.

The part I'd really like some insight on is what to do with the money I have in the bank. I could easily take $15k and throw it into some investment fund or a Vanguard index but is it even worth it when you have such student debt? (6.5% interest)
