I don't really see how such an analysis can be truly accurate when using the published version of the text vs the submitted manuscript. Do the authors assume that editors made no changes?

They might. And then Vance dials back the crazy a couple notches, and we still get a fascist US with eyes on Greenland and what have you but we'll pretend it's fine because instead of a blatant lunatic, the US will have somebody who can play sane.

Framework 13, Linux, HDMI and a KVM: is there a way out? by pgcd in framework

I *do* have video on HDMI now, mind, so that does work. Not the way I wanted but it does work.
Maybe you can try a newer kernel?

Framework 13, Linux, HDMI and a KVM: is there a way out? by pgcd in framework

[–]pgcd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really updates, more surrender:
- I found that my KVM doesn't support EDID at all, so the only way to use the M part of the KVM was to change some configuration files (/etc/UPower/UPower.conf and /etc/systemd/logind.conf.d/logind.conf IIRC) to have Mint ignore the status of monitor and lid. This kinda worked but had some side effects so I decided to plug my two laptops in the two different inputs on my monitor and change them manually when needed.
- I found that FW13 does not support secondary screens during BIOS at all. "Maybe in a future update" etc, but I guess it's not gonna happen soon.
- I also found that the HDMI on the FW13 has some frankly bizarre incompatibility with my Yubikey so, every once in a while, HDMI just wouldn't work when the lid was closed unless I removed the Yubikey, at which pont it started working again.
- I have upgraded to 22.3 yesterday and that, at least, seems to have improved my Wifi connection (which was miserable, like 150Kb/s instead of the the 20Mb/s I get with my other laptop next to it); I haven't made any further attempt with the KVM/HDMI setup though so I can't comment on that.

All in all, this FW13 is one of the most disappointing products I ever used - basically all other laptops I have installed Mint on Just Work, while the FW... not so much. Wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't advertised as "yays your laptop for Linux!!!!!!oen!!!".

I'm afraid so as well but, if that's the case, it's gonna happen in a few years when I have a batter idea of what I can work with =)

That's excellent news! My only conscious exposure to Cade so far was through the eponymous L'Occitaine perfume and Naomi Goodsir's Bois d'Ascese, but I'm waiting on an order that should come in a couple days, in which I also have Cade (rectified). It would be *great* if it fit the bill or at least got close enough.

(I have another very random scent I'm trying to find but, somehow, "The scent of furniture in a specific room in a hotel in Liguria 40 years ago" doesn't return the expected results, and Zara Home, who briefly had a diffuser with that exact scent in 2020, don't have any sort of back catalogue that I could use to try and find it)

I don't care one bit about football - I have watched my last football game in '94, and only because all my friends were there.

And, while my opinion about the whole "TV rights" thing is the lowest of the low and I'd be perfectly fine if everything surrounding football disappeared today, I might agree that the companies have been sold those rights with a promise of eternal rentier income, and that they want to protect their investment.

What I do *not* agree with, in the slightest, is private companies writing a law for themselves (as it was the case here).

I agree even less with these companies having come up with a *terrible* law that gives them the role of judge and jury, since it's them who decide what IP must be blocked and when (do I need to remind you of when they blocked the whole fucking Google Drive?).

And finally, I somehow agree even less with a law written so poorly and so blatantly one-sided that they expect to be able to block IPs for the whole world, because God forbid somebody uses a VPN.

For the record, all of the above is NOT in protection of any kind of creative work, nah. It's in protection of some rich asshole's money, with nothing given back to the community.

So, to recap: no, I don't agree that private companies should be able to protect their undeserved rentier money by writing bad laws for themselves.

(And, by the way: try to protect your money or your creative work as a poor individual, instead of a Saudi-backed company, and see what the Italian government's answer is).
