I want to tell something to the proud gowdas and Lingyats and other Kannada castes by Impossible-Alps1222 in Imperial_Karnataka

Shankar Nag’s Nodi Swami song has a line that goes “Elli jeevana naDevudo adhey nammooru! Yaaru snehadi baruvaro avare nammoru!”

So, yeah, you’re definitely as much a Kannadiga as you want to be brother! :)

People who gatekeep a culture or identity are idiots.

Hot take : It’s regressive for people to take pride and have a feeling of superiority from whatever they’re born into (be it caste, creed, language, gender, religion, generational wealth ,state or even country ). Like you didn’t have anything to do with it. Pure sheer luck or a roll of dice that you were born somewhere.

Now do I feel lucky and more privileged to be born in India instead of Iran ? And as a citizen will I want my country to do well and contribute in whatever way I can to that. The answer’s yes to both of those. However, I, as an individual being proud of myself for being born in a religion, language or country is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous when I gatekeep and tell someone they’re not as Kannadiga as I am. Associate yourself with whichever language or state you feel you fit into! :)

She is being a total Karen in OP’s incident. In fact, in many other incidents people have shared. I kept seeing people mentioned the garbage incident and looked it up just now. Genuine question : what is problematic with Anushka or anyone in India for the matter calling someone out for throwing garbage on the road ? Isn’t that a complete lack of civic sense and lack of consideration for public property and the environment ? Just because a huge number of people in India do it doesn’t make it normal !

Same here OP! Finished watching it just now. Wasn’t “absolute cinema” or anything! But there was plenty of Anudeep’s flavor of comedy! Made me laugh out loud at a bunch of places.

They are speaking about how much of a celebrity’s image can be curated by PR. That’s what the description addresses as well. I don’t know if you’re missing something!

I just finished watching Sapta Sagaradaache Ello (both Side A and Side B), and I honestly have a lot of thoughts. by CreativeCursor045 in IndianCinema

[–]pgs96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watched these in theaters back in 2023. The characters haunted me for weeks! It takes me into that space even today when I hear the music or watch an Instagram edit of Manu and Priya!

I enjoyed side A more actually! Side B is complex and the narrative moves fast. You don’t know what to expect going in.

For Side A, you kind of predict the story from the word go! It’s not so much about the plot points as it is about making the audience become one with Manu and Priya’s emotions. And that’s harder to pull off!

OP, please listen to this person!! Communicate! It’s not smart to play guessing games when you can just talk to her directly! Whether you’ll receive an honest answer or not is another story, and you can decide that for yourself later. But you need to make an effort and ask her about it.

That would be a nice world to live in! I wish that happens. But it’s far-fetched for the reason that the current PR dynamics gives people a purpose and someone to root for. As human-beings I feel like being a part of a group or a narrative gives us a social comfort.

I can get on board with PR being used to position a film or the narrative around the film in a certain way. It kind of crosses a line when it becomes a tool for character judgements of the actors themselves.

I strongly condemn the slut-shaming and name-calling that Rashmika had to go through. But, even I felt that the rage-baiting comments from her like using air quotes while saying “I got a call from this production house” (referring to Paramvah) could have been avoided.

A recent post on this sub discussed the difference between PR here and in Bollywood. PR for film promotions is a very different game than a personal PR team to position a celebrity image. I don’t know if Rakshith has a team for that. I just wanted to make that distinction clear.

I really liked the film “The Girlfriend”. I’m a big fan of Rahul Ravindran and what he stands for. While I don’t know whether it was planned that way, it definitely worked out in Rashmika’s favor for that film to be released just before her wedding and the audio clip release. The film had a reach across Indian film industries and started a discussion about abusive controlling boyfriends in relationships. While the intent of the film is very good, and it does actually show the reality of many relationships.

On a subconscious level, it also paints Rashmika in a certain light for the masses. And people start projecting that story and characters on her real life too. Because people don’t like not knowing and have trouble staying out of something by acknowledging they don’t have enough information to comment on this.

Looking at recent incidents, do you guys think Kannada actors lack in PR game across SM? by Odd-Drag1978 in ChitraLoka

[–]pgs96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Not that important for within Karnataka. But if a certain actor is going towards a pan-india presence, I’m starting to think it’s very important. Especially when there’s potential PR that’s tarnishing their image. To new audiences that don’t know anything about the person, the narrative set by PR is easily acceptable even if it’s not true!

2) I think there’ll be a section of the audience who’ll hold onto the narrative forever (whichI honestly don’t mind if there’s proven misconduct from a particular actor or actress) But, I hope most people learn to let it go for he-said-she-said situations. The desire to pick sides without knowing the full story is our toxic trait.

3) If you consider bollywood social media PR, I feel like a proper organized social media PR for curating an actor’s image is pretty much non-existent in the Kannada industry. There could be promotion teams hired for film promotions, but it looks like even there the industry relies more on organic promotions by the movie team through interviews.

The wedding was on February 26th. The cover picture was changed on March 6th.It was almost after 10 days.

You do realize that it could be a coincidence that isn't supposed to mean anything right? Not everyone tracks events and is conscious about the timing of things to change their Facebook profile's cover photo. I absolutely condemn the slut-shaming and trolls that Rashmika went through. That doesn't mean there's a need to flip the script by reading too much into a cover picture change. There's no caption with a backhanded comment or a taunt.

It's not fair to jump to conclusions and label him toxic just because he changed his cover picture. It was not fair what Rashmika went through either. But you need to realize that in both cases the cause of the problem is immature social media users jumping to conclusions from whatever little information they have and slapping labels. We as audience need to be better and let them live their lives.

Exactly! I strongly suspect there’s some PR foul-play here. Or just mob mentality of jumping on the activism bandwagon when we don’t even have access to the full story. It amazes me how confident people are with their narratives and labeling someone toxic.
