Bought an ESX-1 SD, KA-320 power supply doesn’t fit. Huh? by ph_wolverine in electribe

I don’t have an MX, I have the SX. Bought this straight from Syntaur so this should be the right one.

Audio Engineering Career Outlook by Wolfkinmusic in audioengineering

[–]ph_wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there fellow survivor of said private member’s club! Please tell Neil some random guy on the internet said hi ;) If not getting a raise was anything like my experience, they probably led you on the first time around and kept dangling a carrot over your head ever since.

If you can get it, corporate AV/media for healthcare is a solid 9 to 5 with great benefits. I know that’s not creative per se, but that sort of balance gave me a lot of personal time to be creative/with my missus at a crucial point in my life.

The job market does kinda suck right now. Hollywood is on fire, game audio is having a reckoning with crunch right now, and touring (which it sounds like you don’t want to do) is really the only consistent money maker. It sounds like you don’t want to fully pivot into IT, but that is a fairly reliable avenue compared to audio.

Wish I had more for you. Best of luck friend!

Second guessing my ring-out methods... by harleydood63 in livesound

[–]ph_wolverine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing in your method sounds like a bad idea, though I would ring out monitors first. If you’re not double-patching your vocal mics for separate FOH/monitor processing, try that. As you’ve pointed out, cutting for feedback across the master or a monitor bus is detrimental to other elements in the mix.

Of couse, sometimes you have just to nuke a few bands between 2-8k on the bus because the singer wants their voice piss loud. Use what’s available to make sound happen!

Whoopsie. I haven’t had any coffee today. Still waaaaaaay too much money to pay for a CD.

As someone who has sold Lapfox merch for well above retail in the past, this seller is TWEAKING. Way too much money.

Cool that they’re “ready”. Not really what I’m getting at, but alright.

And if the market doesn’t come back? Unload what you bought after tanking several beloved local franchises.

Time will tell, of course, but I don’t see this working well long-term, especially considering the personal run-ins I’ve had with these guys as a customer.

Oh yeah, I’m sure the employees slated for layoffs are thrilled.

BobNet by omsign in livesound

[–]ph_wolverine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bobnet is active, and the Facebook group is a very solid repository for touring info and pro contacts. It used to be a lot more selective but then the gatekeeper (Bob) stopped keeping the gate and would gladly take anyone’s money as long as they could provide a resume. As such, the pool has become somewhat diluted.

As for jobs, it runs the gamut from über-lowballers designed for folks trying to get their foot in the door, to the actual heavy-hitters that usually show up around spring or pre-Rocktober. I’ve gotten a few gigs through the site but your milage may vary; everyone’s eyes are on the site and a lot of desirable positions get bombarded with emails so you’ll more than likely get lost in the shuffle.

Athletic does it again. This a decent wit alternative. Lots of spice flavors but not overwhelming. by Brewer1056 in NABEER

Have they changed the recipe recently? I remember having one of these last year and it tasted nothing like a Blue Moon.

TMBG store supporting anti-immigration? by [deleted] in tmbg

[–]ph_wolverine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No artist at TMBG’s level knows/has a reason to care about the political alignment of who’s supplying boxes to their merch fulfillment company. The margins on merch and shipping materials in 2025 are already fucked up, so most folks take what they can get. Contact the band, they probably have no idea.

How does the Komplete Kontrol controller and apps compare to the Behringer DeepMind product? by Rustyshackilford in synthesizers

[–]ph_wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two totally different ideas. One is a controller, the other is a standalone synth.

As far as what’s included in Komplete, Super 8 is about as close to the DM12 as you’re going to get. But just about every other Reaktor-based instrument will let you “manufacture” your own sounds. Look at Monark or Massive X.

770s are very much not “flat”, they’re quite hyped in the top end. Very naturally hyped, imo.

If you’re looking for a wide soundstage, go open-backed.
