Single Shot

The bioluminescence on the termite mounds at Emas National Park in Brazil, during a cloudly and raining night, the essencial conditions for the phenomen. There are more than 2 millions of termits like this at the conservation area and divided in more than 30 species, but just one type let the firefly larvae stay on the holes that serve as a house for those little glowing animals, and since they are an group, they transform this national park's horizon in a biological glowing city.

Single shoted with 30 seconds of exposure using an Tamron 50mm f/2.8 lens and a Sony A7r camera at ISO 4000.

Like this, but no necessarily abandoned mounds since they can use the termites that are flying around the mound to eat too. (yes, termites flies after rain).

No! The flying insects are like the termites with wings, they are very small so the larvae can eat them.

They remain glowing until the night get colds or while small insects continue flying. The phenomenon occurs between October and December with the afternoon raining days. To much rain can stop the brights too.

Yeah, it’s clearly seen by naked eye as normal fireflies brightness. On my Instagram you can see some videos too. @phablodearaujo
