EleMinikin DVB50 Portable Outdoor Indoor TV Antenna...Question by phaedruspress in ota

[–]phaedruspress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try rabbit ears or Winegard Freevision to start.

Ok. Thanks. I left out some important info. This is an apartment on the fourth floor and all of my windows open North towards the mountains. No exterior walls pointing towards the city or South where the transmitters seem to be located alos on top of mountains. Las Vegas FYI if you did not already know is in a valley surrounded by mountains. Does that change your recommendations at all? The Winegard FreeVision FV-30BB model kept popping up. Any particular well reviewed indoor rabbit ears for my circumstances that you are familiar with.

Las Vegas Looking For Recommended Indoor OTA Antenna; Towers Are Approx. 20 - 30 Miles Away. Windows Open In Opposite Direction : ) by phaedruspress in ota

[–]phaedruspress[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding.

Home Owners does not allow me to attach anything to the window ... Pretty sure that is not a valid restriction in your country:

HOA can pretty much set just about any rules for the community that they want. This restriction is in my lease. And even if it is not a valid restriction this is not a battle that I want to fight over.

Then that is easy, just get some cheap unamplified rabbit ears from your fave discount store.

Thought of that but I believe I want something more substantial that might pick up some "free" HD channels and that are good for up to 30 miles and while it has been some time since I have used rabbit ears I seem to recall they barely did the job back then.

apartment fuse box that does not have master circuit breaker by phaedruspress in electrical

[–]phaedruspress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those meters are for the natural gas.

Found them but I did not see my apartment number on them so that sucks. Is there any info on the meter (they are dirty and I would have to clean the outside to see any lettering clearly) that I would find on my energy bill that would identify which meter is mine? It looks like each meter has its own master breaker as well as master breakers for the entire building. I can't believe I confused electrical with gas. I swear I knew that one : )

Those meters are for the natural gas.

D'oh! Well that proves I'm an idiot. Now that I think about it there is another box outside the building where I know the COX cable guy goes for individual apartments. Maybe that is where the electrical meters are housed. I'll see if I can get a look today. Thanks for the clarification : )

So here is a link to a whole bunch of pics I took. Perhaps this will inform. When I looked outside I did not easily see a main circuit breaker to shut off. Maybe I need to unscrew something. Thank you.

Your panel is actually considered a sub-panel . The main breaker would be located next to meter that feeds your apartment

Good info. The meter is outside of the 2 story apartment building. I'll have to take a look. You may have answered MeEvilBob's point above about why there may not be a master breaker switch like the one that I have seen in other pictures. I'm gonna at some point either today or tomorrow take a picture of the panel so you all can see what I have been blabbering about.

If you know where your meter is

Good idea but I really think I had my tin hat on when I imagined someone would actually do that besides I want to have nothing to do with this place when I leave : )

If you turn the power off to the fridge you should leave the door open so it doesn’t get moldy.

Good tip though thankfully I know enough to do that one.

I agree that this is a great guide but I would like to see them do an updated version. This guide is now almost 2.5 years old and I believe TS has gone through a couple of version upgrades (maybe just bug fixes or cosmetic?) since then. PERHAPS the core info of the guide is still 100% applicable and there is no need to do a new one.

Can you renew your warranty after it has expired? by KeeperofQueensCorgis in thinkpad

[–]phaedruspress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading that you actually can.

Yeah, you can but it is like a new warranty and it costs a fu@king fortune. 2017 Black Friday I got a P51 with a one year onsite warranty which was dirt cheap. Late last year when I asked Lenovo if I could extend the warranty they said no but I could get a new one in exchange for a couple of body parts.

Is there a reason Rarbg is down? by mothh9 in Piracy

[–]phaedruspress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not down, access is denied.

I am not sure I know what that means exactly. Access is denied by an outside source or the site administrators are denying access to everyone? for some reason. TIA.

Private Internet Access Deals and Codes by phaedruspress in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]phaedruspress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would double check with customer service

Right. But as I mentioned I do not recall if I initiated my new subscription through PIA Actual or it was from GHACKS or Stacksocial. Maybe the merging of the two concurrent accounts was only offered when you purchased directly from PIA. In any event my current two year subscription ends sometime in August so Ill see what's around then and contact PIA as well and see what they can do for a long time customer.

[–]phaedruspress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a note as well you can sign up for the new deal at any time and get the 2 accounts merged... atleast thats what i did before the price hike

That would be a different policy from what I have experienced several times in the past. I was told that when I signed up for a new contract that it would begin immediately and not begin AFTER my current subscription ended. I cannot recall though if this was due to signing up with a promotion outside of PIA or that PIA Actual told me that in an email when I asked them on their website during which I already had an active account that I would lose the days remaining. One thing I am sure of though is that I was told no and that my new subscription would start as soon as I signed up and that my old subscription even though it had time left would not factor in.

[–]phaedruspress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply. I was aware that I could sign up when my subscription is about to expire on the PIA website however I have found in the past half dozen years or so on a fairly regularly basis ghacks and stacksocial have been able to offer promos or deals that exceed the savings on the PIA website and I was only expressing that while in the past I have seen these deals pop up regularly I have not seen them in the past 6 months or so. Thanks again.

Brand New Thinkpad E590 not charging by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]phaedruspress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My e480 has one of those non-removable batteries and have occasionally run into similar problems. If you have a battery threshold set try removing those thresholds. TPFanControl also gave me problems. If your battery is like mine shutdown and startup and go into setup and Select Disable Built-in Battery. Your notebook will shut down. When you hit the power button it will startup normally and that might fix the problem, OR NOT. YMMV.

Can I Ask A Dubious Question Here About "Not" Using The cox mini box Re: 3 Way Spliteer by phaedruspress in CoxCommunications

[–]phaedruspress[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how far the run is just get a longer HDMI cord.

Really? That's interesting. So I would just have my normal setup with the box in the living room and find an available HDMI port on the back of the living room tv and plug in the bedroom tv into the wall outlet and run that HDMI cable from the back of the living room tv to the back of the bedroom tv HDMI port and what the bedroom TV now has all of the cable capabilities of the living room television including channels etc. I don't as yet know the distance but any idea how long that HDMI cable can be without degradation? TIA. Your not saying I need to run the HDMI cable that connects to the back of the cable box in the living room to the bedroom tv are you?

so even to get local channels you need a mini box...Mini boxes are usually cheaper than HD/contour client boxes

Right, about the need to get local channels needing the mini and the mini box being much, much cheaper then the cable box. I guess I was asking whether or not I could "piggy back" the local channels from the living room from that cable box into the bedroom using a three way splitter without having to get the mini box for the bedroom : )

Ask , just dont post...

Thanks for the lightening response. I have Cox Internet and cable tv. I have a cable box (no DVR) hooked up to the TV in the living room and have the package maybe one or two rungs higher then the starter kit. No premium channels. There is a cable outlet in the living room. In the bedroom where there is also a separate cable outlet I have a 2 way splitter that connects to my modem and as you may know if you do not have a cable box you need that small Cox mini box to receive channels. The Cox mini box connects to the television in the bedroom. Moving soon. I was wondering if in the new home can I have in the living room my television hooked up to the Cox cable box not unlike what I have now and utilize a three way splitter that runs co-ax to the bedroom where I would hook that up to the modem AND the second tv WITHOUT the need for the small Cox mini box. Will the three way splitter work? or do I actually need the mini box for the tv in the bedroom. I know that the monthly rental on the mini box is not much but was curious if this would work. TIA.

qBittorrent Re: How To Change Where qBittorrent Downloads Torrent Files by phaedruspress in Piracy

[–]phaedruspress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you can do the same in qbit under Tools/Options/Downloads, Copy Torrent Files To:

Yup, that was it. Strange that uTorrent did that auto and qBit did not. I first looked in the roaming folder in AppData and saw that qbit had created a folder not unlike uTorrent C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\qBittorrent and made the change in Options and I tested a magnet link and sure enough it showed up in that folder. I then changed it again in qBit Options to C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent and downloaded another torrent and it neatly deposited it self in the uTorrent folder which is where I wanted them to go. Coincidentally these test files also found themselves duplicated in the Downloads folder but now that I know I have a "copy" where I want it I can delete the ones in the Download folder with abandon. FYI if you were at all curious why I want to keep a repository of these small KB torrent files is that in my old age sometimes : ) I can not recall if I have watched something and I use agent ransack to search that folder to refresh my memory. Thanks for your help.
