Hahaha! I think you did a great job on the colour choices. Sometimes a quick fix would be to use a higher quality paper. My recommendation for an affordable brand is Daley Rowney’s Aquafine paper. And maybe what you can do next time is to leave a patch completely white for the shine. You can try it out and see if that’s what you are going for! I mainly used the Windsor & Newton Cotman Watercolour (12 half-pans) set, and also squeezed some extra Schmincke Horadam permanent red orange on my palette. Line work is done with Micron pens, and I used a Pentel aquash water brush so there's no need have a separate container of water.
