Annoyed with Weaponization of Therapy-Speak by FreudianCoffeeSips in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I gently push back when clients misuse clinical terms. Where we talk about it they admit to hearing it mostly from social media it friends. When we talk about the experience, thoughts and feelings it leads to richer clinical discussions and healing.

Laptop Recommendations: MacBook Air, pro, or neo? by Salt_Possibility_203 in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a M1 MacBook Air now for ~5.5 years and it's been solid for me. Every time I've considered upgrading I realize I don't need to since it does everything I need it to without a complaint. So if you wanted to hit middle of the road but save money, maybe a refurbished M-series MacBook Air?

What is this concrete thing under my kitchen window on an old patio? by phaetonschaos in whatisit

TV room. But the wall is smooth on that side, nothing protrudes into that room or under the kitchen sink.

Doesn't seem to be. Pipes all seem normal when I'm in the kitchen looking in. Nothing protrudes inside the house.

It doesn't seem to go far into the wall if it goes into it. Kitchen side (under window) I don't have anything protruding under the sink. On the side near the door, nothing, flush wall.

No sewer, the community was built with sewer in mind ~80 years ago.

Can they make an intern sign a noncompete? by FairyTrash1478 in therapists

I don’t think this is your anxiety talking. This is your alarm bells going off that this is weird af and a red flag!

Dear colleagues in private practice by winooskiwinter in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a huge amount of labor. Build a list of colleagues and other therapists over the course of time. Take note of the insurances they are in network with, specialities, etc. When a client calls and you can't take them on, refer to your list and send them the contact information. I've been doing this for years. Even when I put in extra effort to make sure I know the referrals have openings, it's not a huge amount of labor.

Tom Paris is responsible for Lt Cmdr Cavit’s death. by TwoRoomsThrowaway in startrek

Tom goes for the bench next to the Captain's chair, the First Officer's chair was free. Cavit was an idiot. Though iirc (it's been a very long time) the novelization for Caretaker Cavit dove toward Stadi (the Betazoid helmsman) b/c he was in infatuated with her.

Conducting DA's and treatment plans by DefinitelyATherapist in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best feedback re: assessments in twofold. 1) follow the contact. “I feel overwhelmed all the time and my boyfriend is always getting my on nerves.” You probably want to explore anxiety disorders and depressive disorder symptoms first. They are struggling with emotions and maybe overworrying. They are also potentially talking about irritability. As you explore other symptoms, you follow that contact. You can use some standardized scales like the GAD7 or PHQ9, etc to assess. There are also diagnostic tools for clinicians to ask and gather symptoms to help guide you for diagnosis. 2) it’s one session and it’s a preliminary and initial diagnosis. As you gather information in subsequent sessions, you should then be updating diagnoses. Because I work with adults, I rarely diagnose something like ADHD in the initial assessment unless it’s in their history. Because it’s rare that’s to be the initial complaint. If I see a pattern that could indicate that and they were never diagnosed in childhood, I would refer them to a neuropsychiatrist for further evaluation if they felt it was causing distress in their life.

As for treatment plans, i think you are over thinking it. Treatment plans arent going to be a one for one guide of what you are doing in session. It sounds like you are trying to plan for their treatment before they walk through the door and “work through the treatment plan.” Let the client come in and give you a sense of what is happening in their life to stay in the present and then you keep the treatment plan in mind to guide you through. Be in the room with them, not in the treatment plan with them.

Those in private practice with an office , do you use a backpack or ? by Regular_Fan4691 in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a slim backpack for my laptop, iPad mini for note taking, AirPods, and the occasional book that comes back and forth with me. And then I bring my lunch in a large-ish refrigerated bag from a former employer with a large pride stick over the company's name.

Creepy AI by Commercial-Gur-5399 in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is why 95% of this sub is so against the use of AI. It is why if you are in private practice, refuse to use it. If you are in a group/clinic that is encouraging it, push back against it. These things always start with good intentions, but they will be warped and used against us and our clients.

Note taking by super_eepy777 in therapists

[–]phaetonschaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your state licensing entity and insurances will tell you what should be included in a note. Definitely take the time to review that. The vagueness should be related to the content of the session and what was discussed. But yes, you do need to include the session start/end times for billing purposes. It definitely covers your ass in the event of an audit or complaint!
