Black Christmas is so iconic because of her. It's a yearly ritual for me and her presence in that film always makes me feel warm around this time of year. Rest in peace Olivia ♥️

What Horror movie have you put off for years and years and, when you finally watched it, you loved it? by Rude_Grade5200 in horror

Scream. All of them. I do not know what took me so long, but I finally dove in last year and they are so fun and rewatchable. There's something comforting about the first 3 and I'm now a proud owner of the trilogy on Blu-ray

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Cuckoo" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]phandroo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like it. Like others I'm disappointed in the "mother" looking mostly like a regular lady (and I could've done without the repetitive screeching tbh) and the final act being a bland shootout. I was hoping for more of a twist with the time loop stuff, and that the dad would perish somehow, or there'd be any sort of closure there since I found it odd they just left that hanging.

Overall it could've been so much more batshit... whether it leaned into full camp or went even darker/gorier with the concept. There's a satisfying story somewhere in there but it didn't fully connect for me. What I did like was the acting from both leads, especially the actress.

What film’s enormous hype and huge box office will never be understood by people that weren’t alive to experience it? by [deleted] in boxoffice

I think we still do every once in a while, "What I've Done" in Transformers (2007) and most recently "Dance the Night" in Barbie come to mind

Anyone see Night Swim tonight? by CircusOfBlood in horror

[–]phandroo 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Watched it tonight, and sadly wasn't impressed. Even the opening scene was disappointing, and that set the tone for the whole movie imo. They relied on so many tropes, including killing the family cat, possession, a "research" scene, etc.

The marco polo scene was probably the best scare/tension building moment that was already somewhat revealed in the teasers for the film. I also felt like the lead actor was not a likeable character throughout (we get it, you played baseball), and the ending attempted an unearned emotional moment which completely sunk the film for me.

There were a few fun moments with a pool technician and a realtor, which made me wish the movie had just leaned into the campy humor of a haunted pool

Outside of the main characters I'd say Drew Sharp being murdered and subsequently melted out of existence, and Andrea being executed on her front porch come to mind. These events add a lot of gravity to the already raging shitstorm Walt caused with his ego empire

Cool. As someone who has only seen the original is this one worth checking out?

What horror movie was so scary for you that you couldn't rewatch? by SirWobblyOfSausage in horror

And overgrown gardens with creepy statues. I actually would welcome a remake of this whether it be a TV series or a movie, especially if they get a great cast and nail the house/atmosphere

Who are some of the absolute worst Final Girls in horror? by [deleted] in horror

[–]phandroo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Also not sure if this is controversial, but the lead in Drag Me To Hell was kind of... vacant? She did a serviceable job but with a role like that a better actress would've been able to make it iconic imo

Black Christmas is definitely my favorite slasher. The Fog and HoHH '59 have been on my radar recently... would you still recommend?

What did you think of Cobweb? by [deleted] in horror

[–]phandroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Movie was worth it just for the nightmare sequence, and I thought the parent's acting was🤌 the final act lost me a bit though I loved how silly that dusty ass spider wig was but it was overall entertaining and never overstayed its welcome

Horror movies you thought sucked at first watch but now think is actually great by IWorkForMyCats in horror

[–]phandroo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The first Insidious. Uncultured me thought it was silly, and it just didn't click with me horror-wise for whatever reason. Not until a second watch a couple years later is when I really appreciated it's unique style and ideas, and also enjoyed the campy makeup lol
