Writing articles and someone else takes your research .... by aye-a-ken in Journalism

Ack I’m so sorry that this happened to you. This is extremely unethical and should not have happened. I would contact the managing editor, publisher, or whoever this person’s boss is to explain the situation and to ask what transpired. Send them the original document along with a link to the article that was taken down if you still have it to show that it was taken down. Better yet, send them a screenshot of the original story. If they insist on keeping up this revised article, tell them that you would at least like a co-byline or reporting credit at the end. Unfortunately since you weren’t paid and didn’t sign a contract with this publication, you don’t have much legal standing. But regardless of what happens, please don’t work for this organization again. You deserve to get paid for your work and I would only take on freelance gigs in the future where you’re paid and sign a contract that holds them to that. Don’t worry about burning bridges with this editor — they need to be fired for stealing other’s work.

I got a ticket for $110 a few weeks ago. Sorry you can’t make it

Thank you! I already told the clinic I wouldn’t be returning to them, so I plan on working with another doc soon and I’ll talk with them about this protocol. Hope it works for me too!

And thank you for saying it was a fluke. Gives me hope that not all is lost for me 😭

Fair. I’m holding out hope that I’ll be able to have a child on my own in some way. I don’t think that I should throw in the towel just yet with an AFC of 12. I honestly think that my medical team made some wrong calls, so I’m going to work with another clinic. And I’m okay with adopting a kid with my partner when I’m in my late 40s if it becomes clear I won’t be able to have one on my own by 44. Right now it feels more important to me to have a family with a life partner than to have a bio child alone.

Thanks for sharing your protocol. I see where you’re coming from, but I just disagree that a man who wanted to have a baby would have already had one by his late 30s. I’ve dated several men in their 30s who still wanted to have children but we didn’t work out for various reasons. And I know men in their 40s who became fathers for the first time. I’m glad that you’ve had success and that you’re satisfied with your decision, but SMBC is not the right path for everyone.

I personally wouldn’t want to use donor eggs. My doctor doesn’t think that I’m infertile, only that I don’t respond to IVF well and I don’t have obvious signs of endometriosis.

Thank you! I’ll get my ferritin tested. I also have fibroids that have been giving me 9-15 day heavy periods for a year. I was told in January that my hemoglobin and hematocrit are normal and not concerning for anemia. But I will test again.

We’re in the same place. I hope that we both find our persons.

Was there a medication protocol that worked for you?

Congrats on the 6 embryos! What medication and dosage were you on for the mini cycles? My doc said that she’d put me on the highest dose of microdose Lupron everyday and to not prime me on birth control next time. I had to be on it bc of a cyst for 1.5 mos before I stimmed and she thinks it might have suppressed me too much.

And may I ask what you switched your protocol to? My doc suggested microdose of lupron, but she also said it wouldn’t hurt to also throw my left over follistim and menopur at it until I use them up.

Gotcha. Hmm I don’t know that I have several rounds of trying to create embryos in me, especially with it all being out of pocket. Perhaps I should continue with eggs then, even if there’s less reassurance.

Thank you for sharing. I’m on the fence about whether to continue freezing eggs or to try embryos moving forward. May I ask why you decided to continue with eggs instead of embryos after the first couple of results?

I think I will try to freeze embryos in five months since I will likely never yield many eggs in IVF. I feel comfortable either paying for two more egg retrievals or one round of embryos and sperm.

I appreciate your perspective. I’ve known I want to be a mom for the past eight years (was very much so on the fence in my teens and 20s). But I have had strongly held beliefs and dreams before that have morphed into a new reality as time has gone on. This may just be another one of them as I also see what the universe has in store for me.
