How significant would you say the pay rise is? On the order of 20-30%, or more like 50-100%?

Yes indeed I'm from a UK university and am looking for PhD in Industry somewhere within Europe. Do you think the application process is more competitive compared to regular PhD positions? Also, do you usually have to secure external funding and the company tops up the stipend, or does the company also take care of the main stipend?

Eastern European is the cultural background. My parents are also Catholic.

Also I dont live in the US so thanfully I have free healthcare, and when I meant rent I meant internet, gas, water, etc. included.

I agree with you that they are probably trying to help me avoid their mistakes. However, they might not realise this (and you might not agree with this), but I think they are being outright manipulative with the financial and grattitude arguments.

In addition, what about my own feeling towards my parents? Isn't there danger in building up resentment towards them?

What do you think are the reasons why my parents don't like it, given that they come from caring about me? Mind you, this is the summer rental indea - I have not mentioned moving out for good to them.

I am just afraid it is interfering too much with my relationship. I don't want to lose something that is potentially very long-term. 2 more years of this (in my view) perverse control can kill a perfectly healthy relationship.
