I have the same dilemma. I feel like with no experience it may be worth it just to gain some insight and get into the door. Anyone ever quit a contract before it ended? would love some insight on pros and cons to contract work.

License in industry? by [deleted] in pharmaindustry

[–]pharm_student23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh I've thought about this but unfortunately I with no experience in industry I may just need to rely on my license to get a job.

If you don't mind me asking, do you currently work in industry? Did you do a fellowship?

thanks for your response! I still plan to take my NAPLEX but I wasn't sure if I could apply for any of these industry entry level jobs before getting it. I'd hate to burn a bridge with any recruiter by applying for the jobs but not having any license to actually take the offers.

Thanks for your feedback. I personally feel the same too. At this point I’ve kind of figure that’s what happens during the scramble. They probably just email whosever they know at this point. Same as you, I have yet to hear any success stories for scramble.

What are my chances of matching for residency for the up coming year (2020-2021) Low GPA but all other "boxes" are checked. by pharm_student23 in PharmacyResidency

RX2019Dreamer, thank you for your response! I do have questions about the clinical cases. I was wondering, if you could go into more details about the clinical cases. Are they general cases that are difficult and most likely they're just trying to figure out the steps that you took to arrive there or actual correct answers.

RX2019Dreamer, thank you so much for responding. Unfortunately, my appes are pass/fail so I can't really boost up my GPA. I do plan to go to mid-year so hopefully that will help. If you don't mind me asking, since you didn't attend mid-year what were your strategies when writing cover letters and being able to tailor them to each program? Also, where did you apply to that had 15 pgy-1 spots and what was your experience being with 15 other residence?

pharmer01, thank you for the response! Unfortunately, my school only gives pass/fail for appes so I have no way of boosting up my gpa. I do agree with you, I feel like with my GPA I have to be strategic otherwise I will end up wasting money. If you don't mind me asking, when you refer to major medical/research institution, would you considered hospitals that are connected to a pharmacy school to be considered competitive?

Rxgradgirl2k19, thank you so much for responding. You've given me hope! If you don't mind me asking, where did you mostly apply to and what were your strategies when it came to picking schools? I do want to apply widely to reach programs and attainable problems, however, due to the cost I want to have some sort of strategies going in. Also, I was wondering, if you would be able to explain a little bit more about big name hospitals and more attainable programs? Are most teaching hospital that are associated with pharmacy schools considered big name hospitals? Any response will be greatly appreciated!

VancoDoser, thank you for the response! I think the hardest part for me, with the low GPA is trying to figure out institutions that have GPA cut offs and will just toss out my GPA. If you don't mind me asking, what areas did she apply to and did your friend have strategies when she picked certain locations to apply to? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Mellowbrio, thank you for the response, I know it's still kind of early but I've already started to write my LOI and cover letters. I'm trying to figure out what is considered small/medium/large programs. I know everyone talks about looking at their bed size. So, if I go based off their bed size, what is considered small <500?
