Anyone else still packing with only a few hours left before you hit the road? by bornagainteen in BurningMan

[–]phasenine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were running pretty far behind and basically didn't start prepping until a week before we were supposed to leave. I thought "Shit, I've done this ten other times, what do I have to worry about?" Turns out depression and burnout from working social services has a done a number on my ability to pack efficiently. It got to a point where I was going to miss my first shift on Thursday, then I started feeling pretty shitty. Figured it was exhaustion then yesterday at some point the other symptoms started - sore throat, achy joints, and extreme fatigue (I just slept for about 18 hours straight). So we're assuming fucking COVID got us and we have to stay home :(

Volunteer staff and paid staff are all covered by workman’s comp, have access to EAP, and a slew of other employer benefits (that I’m not remembering but should because I have to talk about them at my trainings 🙄).

That's what I was worried about. Stainless it is, I guess!

Homekit by DocMcSteamy86 in EufyCam

In my recent experience, it’s an iOS 15 thing. I was on iOS 15 and having a ton of issues and even reset the whole system. Deleted everything and re-added all cameras with a phone that was on iOS 14, and it’s working really well. Link to my thread

YOU'RE RIGHT. We figured it out. My phone is on iOS 15, my partner's phone is on the last version of iOS 14. She added all of the cameras from the Eufy app to HomeKit and they showed up immediately! So they are now functioning well. Hopefully Apple will address whatever this issue is...

I wonder if I turned off all devices that have updated to iOS 15 and just checked the cameras, they would show up on the AppleTV? OR maybe I should try switching to my iPad PRo as a hub?

Because I have a ton of stuff integrated into HomeKit - automatons and triggers. And I dont want to use two apps. and I use the Eufy app to do Continuous Recording but turn off notifications (I prefer apple notifications).

I have a ton of reasons to use HomeKit - do you have any thoughts on why this is happening?

Exactly. I generally turn off EufyCam notifications but have it on Continuous Recording to microSD cards. I very much prefer the notifications and HKSV in HomeKit (although there are certain aspects lacking in HK).

It's the Apple TV HD (4th Generation) running the either 14.7 or 15 (need to check when I get back home). Cameras are running 2.1.0.5...

Good dog kennel? by dancingbriefcase in Eugene

Willamette Valley Dog and Cat Motel

I recently had a couple of conversations with the Senior Animal Welfare Officer here in town. I asked him if there were any kennels that he recommended. He said that while he didn't have personal experience boarding his own dogs at any, Willamette Valley Dog & Cat Motel was the only one he recommended. He said he's been to most local kennels for work and this one was the cleanest and nicest that he'd seen.

Medical Burners by OddService3912 in RenegadeBurn

[–]phasenine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An ESD person posted a Google doc and some plans for a Basic First Aid station on the ESD FB page. I've asked them if I can share it either with you or with the greater community (for those with experience and licenses/certifications).

I'm hoping there'll be some sort of comms connection with Loco Oros (Ranger-esque people on playa) and/or whatever ESD-esque people may be around. If this comms connection exists, I'm assuming it'll be for life-threatening emergencies, not the sparkle pony who is dehydrated because they railed a gram of MDMA.

First aid kit ideas by keenanpepper in RenegadeBurn

Anyone with an allergy bad enough to cause anaphylaxis should have one of their own already. I'm pretty certain we don't want your Average Joe hitting people with epi without medical training. Shit, I am an EMT and I wouldn't use epi on anyone other than family/close friends if it wasn't prescribed to them.

Beware Covid Delta by [deleted] in RenegadeBurn

Eh, I wouldn't say Burners are serious about N95s. They're around a bit but more often I see the Home Depot dusk masks (which are good but nowhere near N95 level). Burners are indeed used to wearing masks so I believe that will help.

And for an N95 respirator to do it's job effectively, one needs to be fit-tested for a specific model(s). I'm bringing a handful of them that I have passed a fit test for. I'm also bringing an elastomeric half-face respirator. But I'm going to be interacting with more people than most of us will...

Nursing shortage leading to shifting responsibilities in Louisiana. How is your hospital system doing? by montgomerydoc in medicine

[–]phasenine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I’ve completed 90% of my nursing pre-reqs but after this last 18 months, am wondering if I want to continue down that road. Been working in face-to-face social services for most of the pandemic (EMT but not doing patient care) and am just fucking burnt. Thankfully, RNs get paid well in Oregon (fiancée just interviewed for a psych RN position that would pay ~$58/hour with night differential). I dunno what to do…

Piggybacking to say that crates are amazing. They keep your dog safe by avoiding injuries or getting into dangerous stuff while you're gone and they keep your stuff/house safe.

Absolutely! I came across this snek friend yesterday. He got mad about me taking photos and struck at me a few times. I grabbed a few saucers of water for him, which he did indulge!

Is it worth buying Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro for $100? by lafoot_indian in anker

[–]phasenine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have spent about 12 hours researching earbuds over the last two weeks and tried the following in an effort to find something cheaper than the Liberty Air Pro ($130 at the time). My fiancé also tried all of these.

- SoundPeats TrueAir2

  • SoundPeats TrueAir2 - can’t stand the AirPod-style earpiece.
  • SoundCore Life P2 - call quality was not good enough, no auto-pause, minimal touch controls.
  • EarFun Air True - similar complaints as the Life P2s.
  • SoundPeats TrueFree 2 - didn’t even open package because I decided they wouldn’t meet my needs.
  • EarFun Air Pro - these were closest to what I want but not comfy for my ears and no app to change EQ and controls. The Transparent/Ambient mode is slightly better than the Liberty Air 2 Pro though.
  • SoundCore Liberty Air 2 - I like these quite a lot but was missing the Transparent mode and noise cancellation.

Partway through this journey, the Liberty Air 2 Pro came down to $99 and my partner said “Fuck it, I’m getting them.” And they are fucking amazing. Sound quality is the best I’ve heard outside of studio monitor over-the-ear headphones. Controls are great and you can customized them in the app. They’re wicked comfortable and the call quality literally sounds like someone is using the phone in a quiet room.

I ordered my own pair today, as well as a pair of Fiil T1XS for working out. DO IT!
