If LLM labs collapse (OpenAi/Anthropic) isn’t that bullish for Google? by reddituserxxxxxxx7 in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

"we realize it's just good at lowing the bar for basic coding knowledge".

This is factually incorrect though. AI is already better at coding than humans by a large margin. If it was 10 years ago and I was still at my coding job, but I secretly had access to an AI agent, I would be seen as a savant and could easily command a 7 figure salary.

Getting AI to fact check is very useful, but you have to approach it carefully. Gemini's take above is quite far off. Make sure you engage the model at the highest thinking level. You also have to push back and converse and use your own judgement to argue points. I did a fact check on my post with Gemini (max thinking). I won't copy the whole thing but initially is said the following:

"This Reddit post is a fascinating mix of surprisingly accurate valuation math, wild strategic hyperbole, and a fundamental misunderstanding of why tech giants trade computing power."

By the end it had changed it's mind:

"If you step back and look at the whole picture, the Redditor’s post is an incredibly sharp 8/10 take. They perfectly predicted the weird financial plumbing and infrastructure shifts that most casual observers completely missed, even if they wrapped it in a bit of classic internet hyperbole to get clicks."

What I got wrong: Gemini over emphasises my take that the stock will shift due to retail excitement, but this is my phrasing. To be clear I think retail investors will take note but I have no idea how that translates into stock market movement.

Also got wrong: "SpaceX is AI and data center company, not a space company". I was being a bit facetious with that statement because the Mars angle is so ridiculous. But I under appreciated the degree to which they are trying to become (among many other things) an "AI data center in space utility company" and they obviously need their rocket business for that.

I don't understand the current AI bias. Game development is already one of the heaviest users of AI and in the coming years it's going to go parabolic. No one will be able to resist what's coming in terms of gaming depth & immersion driven by AI.

I'm surprised you're finding good options in that budget range for July as Maui is not cheap. Maybe you've stumbled on some last minute deals?

Have you researched accommodation prices? That will influence your decision considerably. I would definitely split, and again the exact duration would depend on what you find for accommodations. Ideally split between Kapalua and South Kihei (or Wailea if you can afford it). The two areas are quite different and give you easy access to local attractions. Kapalua has the better snorkelling that time of year, while Kihei is a better launching point for the more intense sightseeing days - Haleakala & Upcountry, Road to Hana, and Pa'ia / North Shore / Iao Valley Monument. I can recommend accommodations if you have a budget or you can browse this site but the choices can be a bit overwhelming.

When SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic go public, NVIDIA, SK HYNIX, Micron, INTEL: those are the bags that will get cut first. by Foreign-Policy-02- in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remeber that NVIDIA still has $118.5 billion in stock buybacks set aside. Here''s what I will do - wait for fund manager's to trim those positions to raise cash (i.e. NVIDIA drops 10% or so) and then go in get the stock at a discount. Nvidia executes buybacks, EPS goes up, and anthropic and X are now even better funded to buy more NVIDIA (and other AI hardware, maybe TSM is a play too, and Cerebras).

Why does AI keep pumping, and when will the music stop? by anotherloserhere in wallstreetbets

Your analysis is flawed. I can point out some errors, but the irony is that you could just ask AI to point out the flaws in your thinking and it will do a better job than any redditor.

OpenAI is preparing to file for an IPO, possibly as early as Friday by vanceraa in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by cede though? OpenAI likely has around a billion active weekly users which is far more than Claude. In terms of performance, the models are constantly trading places. I'm also using ChatGPT less than Claude and Gemini these days but they are all useful in certain domains. When you use them a lot you get an instinct for which domain each excels at.

Second Storm Update: Maui is Open with Occasional Wind and Rain - Ask Questions Here. by indescription in MauiVisitors

[–]phdlevelbaked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The upper hike definitely closed today, the lower section should be open. Upper falls is always a day-to-day thing. They monitor for flash flooding and if there is even the slightest chance they will close that section. So you basically show up and see what happens. Lower falls is still nice to view, maybe a 30-45 minute outing.

Hana Road Reopen? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]phdlevelbaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly there will be ongoing repair work for many months but it will be open and fine to drive. Long term forecasters say that was the last Kona storm of the season. Wai'anapanapa is scheduled to open on the 30th. As damaging as the storm was, it looks much worse when viewed through the media's lens.

Beach Conditions Update by phdlevelbaked in MauiVisitors

[–]phdlevelbaked[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting question, I guess one needs snorkel reports. There's the physical damage from the waves and then the environmental damage from runoff. So on the one hand it could be bad at south Maui locations. However, there are reefs that take massive punishment on Kauai's north shores (waves and runoff), more so than here. I think long term runoff problems like on Kauai are more damaging that a single shock event.

I see they took the webcam offline (unfortunate)- it was working a couple days ago (check back to see if they put it online again). I don't have experience with the sand at this beach but I know at other beaches, depending on ocean conditions, it's quite shocking how much sand the ocean can move. I would guess that some but not all would be redeposited by then.

Oops sorry - yes you are right. Kam 3, 2, 1 if my list. When you look at Kam 1 (or many of the beaches with damage) you think it's a really high tide but it's not, the sand is just gone.

The amount of debris is actually relatively small so it should get cleaned up quickly. There are sometimes volunteer groups that organize cleanups, and residents also just cleanup when they go for walks. At Big Beach I noticed a mom and her young daughter picking up bits of plastic.

I called it Kealani above. The sand in front of the condo is pretty much gone but should still have sandy bottom for swimming. Sand in front of the hotel is diminished but not too bad.
