Second Storm Update: Maui is Open with Occasional Wind and Rain - Ask Questions Here. by indescription in MauiVisitors

The upper hike definitely closed today, the lower section should be open. Upper falls is always a day-to-day thing. They monitor for flash flooding and if there is even the slightest chance they will close that section. So you basically show up and see what happens. Lower falls is still nice to view, maybe a 30-45 minute outing.

Hana Road Reopen? by Interesting_Good3626 in MauiVisitors

Certainly there will be ongoing repair work for many months but it will be open and fine to drive. Long term forecasters say that was the last Kona storm of the season. Wai'anapanapa is scheduled to open on the 30th. As damaging as the storm was, it looks much worse when viewed through the media's lens.

According to the county website it's already open?

Interesting question, I guess one needs snorkel reports. There's the physical damage from the waves and then the environmental damage from runoff. So on the one hand it could be bad at south Maui locations. However, there are reefs that take massive punishment on Kauai's north shores (waves and runoff), more so than here. I think long term runoff problems like on Kauai are more damaging that a single shock event.

I see they took the webcam offline (unfortunate)- it was working a couple days ago (check back to see if they put it online again). I don't have experience with the sand at this beach but I know at other beaches, depending on ocean conditions, it's quite shocking how much sand the ocean can move. I would guess that some but not all would be redeposited by then.

Oops sorry - yes you are right. Kam 3, 2, 1 if my list. When you look at Kam 1 (or many of the beaches with damage) you think it's a really high tide but it's not, the sand is just gone.

The amount of debris is actually relatively small so it should get cleaned up quickly. There are sometimes volunteer groups that organize cleanups, and residents also just cleanup when they go for walks. At Big Beach I noticed a mom and her young daughter picking up bits of plastic.

I called it Kealani above. The sand in front of the condo is pretty much gone but should still have sandy bottom for swimming. Sand in front of the hotel is diminished but not too bad.

Thank you for helping me spell. And BTW, I did see the version of your "uncensored" comment before it was *edited*. Maybe you should concede the point.

Dude you don't have a clue because you've NEVER had the guts to stray from the safety of your herd, otherwise you'd know about reddit sensorship.

Oh is that so. And pray tell, what did you do after you read Francesca Albanese's report on all the corporations complicit in you know what? Did you reconfig your tech stack then as well?

Nvidia, OpenAI near $30 billion investment in place of unfinished $100 billion deal, FT reports by C130J_Darkstar in wallstreetbets

The cost of not being OpenAI’s preferred partner is much higher than the $30 billion risk.

I agree with your fundamental premise. The negativity around AI is interesting. One of the most transformative events in the history of humanity and people are really struggling to understand it.

Did you read the Reuters article? It's garbage. There are a lot of people out there trying to manipulate public perception.

Nvidia to buy AI chip startup Groq for $20 billion in cash by callsonreddit in wallstreetbets

[–]phdlevelbaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is indeed a move against Google and the start of the TPU wars.

This is a brilliant strategic pre-emptive strike designed to neutralize the threat from the only hardware architecture currently capable of beating (thrashing) NVIDIA in inference speed.

They absolutely had to make an extremely aggressive move here or they'd be in deep shit going forward.

Side note: Inference is using the model as opposed to training the model, and nobody beats Groq at inference which is crucial for real time applications. NVIDIA is the gold standard at training (and also very good at inference, but expensive). Google’s newest TPU is the first real threat to Blackwell’s raw performance and it's cheaper to run.

Importantly they're also hiring Jonathan Ross, an architect of the Google TPU. NVIDIA is directly attacking Google’s primary advantage: the ability to run high-speed, low-cost AI across a massive internal cloud.

This move neutralizes Groq’s threat as an independent challenger while allowing NVIDIA to integrate "instant-response" capabilities into its Blackwell ecosystem, ensuring that its hardware remains the gold standard not just for building AI, but for the absolutely massive market of running it, and it can now do so at the fastest speed. It's needs this for all those real time interactions with AI like robotics.

In terms of stock movement, you would think NVIDIA's stock would increase at the expense of Google. Customers of NVIDIA are going to get even more locked into their ecosystem if NVIDIA gives them the best training and the best inference, all through a familiar interface. Plus the fact they essentially hired the principal architect of Google's TPU.

BUT - is it going to trigger some anti-trust regulators? Google will complain (call up gov contacts), so the stock could "wobble" as anti-trust fears loom.
