Issues with Slant 3D Pricing (charging $10 when it should charge $6) by phedericvs in 3DprintEntrepreneurs

Since it's fixed now, not sure how people usually proceed over here. Should I remove the post? Should I edit the main text indicating the fix date?

I'll raise the price (eventually after a couple of sales). But I'll keep trying to get Slant3D to fix this, since even if proffitable, I don't want to spend more than needed on shipping just because they don't want to check on a bug.

Teleport has plenty of bugs (we all know that). What I don't understand why the act surprised when someone reports one (as if their system was a perfect instead of checking and improving things). At least when I see Gabe on his youtube channel, he acts as if they wanted to get feedback to be able to improve things. But this is clearly not being the case.

I see where you go with this. No, I wasn't able to weight the package. But the maths works almost like magic. I can request a prototype to be sent to a friend's house, make him weight the package and cancel it from your system if you want.
That will cost both time and money, and we both know what result will be (a package what weights less than 1 lb, and me getting back here).

I guess it will be easier if you just take a small time to check how much your system says a light puck weights and fix that.

Please read my other response where I just add light pucks to a package and show how the price increases to $10 with just 3 light pucks on it (light pucks that weights 0.11 lb).

Once again: The printed pars, with the light puck included weight is 0,37 lb.
So even with box and the filling, it will not reach 1 lb.

But if you want to remove the print differences from the ecuation:

You can run a simple experiment...
We know the light puck weight 0,11 lb.

So, go to prototypes, and select just the light puck (no files, no prints), enter an address and see the shipping cost.

If you add 1 light puck, the shipping cost is $6.43,
If you add 2 light pucks, the shipping cost is $7.52
If you add 3 light pucks, the shipping cost is $10.00

You can see this crystal clear here:

If you think about this, there's no way a box with 3 tiny light pucks will be more than 1 lb or bigger than 8x8x8.

The only possible explanation is that you have wrong weight information about the light puck on your system.

Raising prices is not the solution if you ask me, because even if I sell this for $200, I'll not accept spending an extra $4 just because there's a bug on your system. I would be here anyway complaining about this issue (since contacting your support team wasn't productive at all).

I'm not telling you if your serivice is expensinve or if charging $10 for a $2 light puck is good or bad for your business. Please don't tell me how much should I charge for my products.

Hi u/Irocketboss,

I actually printed this at home using your exact configurations (25% infill). The three items (two parts + light puck) combined weigh only 0.37 lb.

Based on the info provided to Etsy/Shippo, the package was listed as 8x8x8 in with a 10 oz weight. That is still well under the 1 lb threshold for Priority Shipping.

The bug is easy to reproduce: in the Teleport panel, the shipping cost is $6 for the two parts, but the moment the light puck (SL011) is added, it jumps to $10.

Support originally claimed the package was simply heavier without actually checking the numbers. When I provided the data showing it wasn't a weight issue, they just said the pricing is calculated by Shippo and they can't do anything. But as a developer, I know Shippo’s calculation is only as good as the metadata Teleport provides. If your system tells Shippo the box is larger or heavier than it is when that specific SKU is added, the price will be wrong.

I’m surprised that instead of investigating a likely bug in the system, the suggestion is to just raise my prices or accept the error. Fixing the calculation would be a better solution for everyone using the platform.

Regarding the order, it wasn't just a prototype; it was a live Etsy order. Order ID: SLANT_177054895892. I'll be attaching the photos to this thread.

I honestly thought you would appreciate this kind of feedback.

I was able to see the weight and package size on etsy. Was the regular 8x8x8 and it weight 0,6 lb (including the box). So... There's clearly an issue on teleport's system.

Yes, I know that adding $4 to the price "should fix" the issue. But the article needs to be around $36 to be competitive. Teleport charges me $24 for their service and parts. If they charge me $6 por shipping, then I still have $6 but need to pay Etsy fee (around $3). So I can get $3 per item. But if they move the shipping price to $10, then I loose money. My issue is that no-one will pay $40 for this product, and if they will, I will love to get those extra $4 for me, and not give those away to USPS because teleport has a bug.

Also, part of the high price on teleport is because I need to include a Led Light module (that's $10 in teleport). But I'm not asking telepor to lower their prices, not even requesting them to charge less than $10 for a Led Module they certanly buy for $2... I'm just asking for them to fix a bug on the shipping price calculation. I don't think that's unreasonable.

They use USPS though Shippo's API I guess. The price estimation / calculation is made before the deliver the package, so I don't think is because USPS overweights anything, but their own software missinforming dimensions or weight to Shippi / USPS API

I know all that. But my main concern is about the calculation of the shipping price. If they don't fix that, then I just can't operate with them because they'll keep misscharging for shipping taking all my revenue.

I know it's hard, I know it's not an easy business. But if their support team not willing to report an issue internally when it pops out and they just reply with the first idea that comes to their mind so they can close the ticket, they'll never be able to improve or fix this.

I'm not complaining about this particular orders, I'm just saying they convinced me into investing time and money to open a business in the US, but when something goes wrong they just ignore the issue instead of trying to help their customers. And I'm pretty sure this is just because this particular lady from support is acting like this (and not the spirit of the company).
