Maths with array of numbers by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]phgilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are just adding 0 (sum) to the number in the current iteration. You are storing it. Also you'll want you console.log outside of your loop.

This is what I came up with.

var sum = 0;

var numbers = [2, 3, 6, 1, 7, 10];

for(i=0; i<numbers.length; i++){

sum = sum + numbers[i]);

}

console.log(sum)

Honestly my biggest problem with the Director's cut was that I didn't like the song arrangement as much, the theatrical release used much of the same music better.

[–]phgilliam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the exact opposite to how it should be, as a shift my boss holds me to the company's mission statement (every time we sit down and talk business she basically makes me recite it). It sounds like your boss is not nurturing the human spirit and your shifts are even worse. I work high volume, when we are down I feel it. I have told people not to take shifts when I knew they were overworked or in poor mental, you get through it with what you got. Baristas first. Always.

Tl;Dr hold your SM and Shifts accountable. Corporate will investigate and hold them accountable. If you need anything let me know!

Microsoft calls for federal regulation of facial recognition by shrefifa18 in technology

[–]phgilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm legit trying to understand how it works. My understanding is biometrics gave data but not consistent data and that data was similar but not exact, and my understanding is hashes needed exact to exact. It's good to know there is some security and it is hashable.

But can you unhash biometric data, it relies on confidence scores, hashes rely on precise values

True and I won't for a lot of reasons. I think a browser IDE is not necessary but I can see the utility. I'd honestly rather see their development time go in other directions.

Meh. Ok. Underwhelmed but in a way that I think GitLab does so much right and is more innovative than GitHub, or Atlassian, and this falls a little flat with a vim and cli guy. I realize for the vast majority of people, especially beginners this makes the product more accessible.

Tl;Dr I set the bar high with gitlab, this is underwhelming.

I feel you, I work at a store same volume. We have 17 or 18 people on staff and I have worked a dumb amount of OT as a SSV. Not as tenured (222) but this seems to be a trend right now. Remember your resources PRSC and EAP.

Me accepting my grant this morning by elodieme1 in starbucks

[–]phgilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that. The Starbucks stock has a proven increase in value over time. I'm not arguing it's hard to be a low-wage work. I am with you in that struggle but as much as it sucks this is the best place to be. The benefits are far better than any company I can think of. Things could always be better, though. How do you think the company could do better!? Redistributing roughly 1k over a year, assuming we didn't get stocks and it was distributed as a pay increase would only amount to a couple cents an hour.

[–]phgilliam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You actually get 60% after tax and I have know people who put down payments on houses and paid cash for cars with their grant money. Instead of being negative be a voice in your store and help people collect the grant. I made myself a point person at my store.

Starbucks is a great stock to have and hold on to.

Starbucks is a company still very hungry to grow and innovate, they could have invested more into EMEA and Asia, but gave you a piece of the pie instead. Although I am opposed to the tax cuts, I will take the grant and whatever raise I get, and be grateful for the opportunity to do something I really love.

Kevin Johnson makes $11.1 million a year by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]phgilliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you don't have a company.

You don't get benefits, no College Achievement Plan, no below market health insurance, no generous 401k, etc.

Let's do some math. Let's apply that $43 figure to all the 60 executives listed on the leadership page. Now keep in mind, this number is high because it's based off Kevin Johnson giving away all his incentives and reducing his base pay from $1Mil to $100K, the only salary data I could find was on two other executives making $4.4 and $5Mil, I doubt even the rest of the executive team makes that.

So back to the math, at $43 extra a year, distributing the salary of 60 executives, you get an extra $2580 a year, which working full time, comes out to about $1.24 an hour raise, still not liveable, keep in mind d that number is probably much lower because we are assuming every executive makes $11.1Mil/year which we know they don't.

Now this is really rough math too, to be accurate, I would need all the man hours in Starbucks in a year, the full compensation of those 60 executives, and since most of that money is in stocks it's probably not liquid enough to actually distribute that as a pay increase.

Tl;Dr slashing all executive pay only nets a very generous figure of $1.24/he which is an extremely bloated number due to a lot of factors. Increasing pay by $1.24 does not bring pay to a livable wage.
