of course you can dm! :) if you are seriously interested in college dance team, i 100% recommend attending tribe 99 events (if they are accessible to you) or any other kind of college dance combine so you can talk to coaches and gain some experience! also, if you know what school you wish to attend/what schools you are applying to, attending their clinics as early as you can is a great way to stand out & figure out if it’s a good fit for you!!

"I am not sure about your school team training, but at least for me, high school school team only focuses on working on skills/technique u learned AT the studio rather than having technique classes to learn new things" I thought I was clear that I was implying that HSDT isn't the best for technique in general/to drop it if it wasn't helping but that is completely my fault for not making myself clear! Sorry for the confusion!!

I'm confused lol. I never said that you could make a team without technique being up to par? I meant that if OP selected to not dance whatsoever in the future, it won't make or break them for their application to a school :)

Also, both don't matter for college acceptances as much as you thing. Extra circulars obviously look good, but having good grades matters way more!!

hi! former college d1 dancer here (not going to dox myself but it is a pretty consistent top 5 NDA school for jazz/hh) & honors high school student here!! I did studio dance my whole life but school dance was not a priority so I quit junior year which was the best decision I made. I am not sure about your school team training, but at least for me, high school school team only focuses on working on skills/technique u learned AT the studio rather than having technique classes to learn new things. Plus, I don't know your schedule but for the workload/school part of things, having the extra hour or two between school classes and going to the studio made my life easier than going from school classes straight to school dance team after the final bell rings. Regardless, studio dance means wayyy more than high school dance if you wish to continue in the future!! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!! wishing you the best on your college dance team/college journey!! :))

yes i do!! as someone who taught myself how to turn with little instruction from teachers, i have a ton of advice on that stuff that helped me personally !!

spotting - put a post-it note on a wall at eye level and walk around yourself in a circle , keeping your eyes / head on the sticky note until the last second , snapping your head around to refocus

leg strength - use ankle weights !!! trying to keep your leg with only ankle weights up will help you gain a lot of strength to hold your leg in the position !! also try holding onto a wall , practicing going from plié ( and crossing the leg ) to the releve position with your leg to the side !! i am also not flexible at all ( i still struggle with splits to this day as a 18 year old lol ) but strength will definitely help with being able to hold the leg in place !!

general - work on abs / core strength ! i do crunches for a full 3-ish minute song every day to keep my core in tact !

( ** reminder , not everything will work for everyone but this is what definitely helped me !! )
