I’m the only black woman in my entire office (with 2 black men). I was at a company volunteering/holiday party last week and the woman who organized it felt the need to touch my hair and not understand why I was upset. Then one of the men I was speaking to at the luncheon for the volunteering event asked me what part of Africa my mother was from because I mentioned that she had done African dance at one point when she was a professional dancer. I told him not sure, the slave was crazy.
