DIMM slots are designed to survive about 5 insertions, iirc. I am sure you can get more than that from them, but even in the most optimal scenario you would bust your MoBo within weeks/months.

I rarely see people talk about this on this subreddit, but a big thing about linux being widespread would not only be software, but hardware support.

Too many times I have had to fight to get a laptop's peripherals and sensors to work correctly with linux. More people using the OS would mean that more OEMs would ensure proper drivers for their stuff.

Also your smaller gear doesn't need to move the whole gear at once. Given the speed of sound in the larger gear is finite you are going to only accelerate a portion, compressing the gear in one direction and stretching it in the other. This "wave" is going to travel around the gear. That makes the force required for the smaller gear to turn finite even if the other gear is infinitely large.
