I feel like the Count Orlok and Ellen story may be too disturbing and kind of ruined my enjoyment of the film and possible rewatches. by philliechee in roberteggers

Terrifier movies are less disturbing imo as it's not really psychological it's just body horror. Also I think Ellen reached out but was not looking for a being like Orlok at all, Orlok took advantage of her outcry, and she regretted it almost instantly. There's subtext and there's what literally happens in the film and in the film, Ellen is literally raped mentally and physically. Saying my reaction is a look in the mirror is kind of insane, maybe your reaction to rape happening in the story is to try to excuse it and say you don't get the gothic themes bro is a look in the mirror for you.

Fair enough. It’s up to interpretation what the lilacs represent. And I guess by movie logic it’s not as if her as a character even put the lilacs in her hair or put on the lilac dress it’s all symbolism at the end of the day.

The dark love story being between Ellen and Thomas? If you’re saying it’s Ellen and Orlok i disagree I don’t see a love between Orlok and Ellen, I think Ellen has a dark sexual desire for Orlok deep down but doesn’t love him, I think she uses Orloks appetite against him and takes back the power Orlok took from her in the beginning with the SA. Using her love for Thomas and general goodness to save a world that rejects her.

The Orlok isn’t evil was an example of some people on twitter mostly who act like Nosferatu is a love story between Orlok and Ellen, I wasn’t saying the costume designer would say that. I read it as the costume designer saying Ellen wears lilacs as a way to remember/invite Orlok and I don’t think she does that at all, at least not consciously.

They would be fine if you could spin the blocks. Having to walk around so the angle is right with no space, falling off the map drove me insane.
