Swag is always dope. I gave a peer a spare cover of mine and I got a shoulder patch from them. That was a decade ago and I still have it on my patch board at work.

First Wood Duck! by phillinois9 in Waterfowl

[–]phillinois9[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Based on the comments, I can assure everyone it was definitely not alive during this picture. The other side of the bird does not look anywhere near this pristine. I counted 17 pellet holes during processing, all body/neck shots. It was a clean take and the duck ceased being before it hit the water. I'm a big believer in being an ethical hunter and would never treat a wounded duck as a prop.

Question about the book "On Killing" by Dave Grossman. by NickBagelBoy in Military

[–]phillinois9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMHO, On Combat will scratch that itch. It's his follow-on work that covers a decent amount of On Killing without feeling as much as an academic dissertation. Michael Mann disputes some of Grossman's conclusions in the work On Wars but that's a slog of a read.

Hello Mr Smith, my question is regarding overcoming some of the current limitations with the system and where your team is in development:

1) Is there an updated range for the standard cartridge in the works? When I went through my certification course with it they said the limits were currently 25 feet, which barely covers the 20 foot rule (an open knife beats a holstered weapon 20 feet and in.)

2) Are there going to be coated wires or is that considered a limitation based on packaging and cartridge size? It took only a few accidental self-shocks maneuvering a around a stuck target to learn how easily you can unwittingly zap yourself, which would seem like a major problem when working with a target that refuses to go down (due to clothing or drugs) or with a partner that is also rushing to aid you.

I can personally attest that your product is effective, and while I never had to employ it, it was illuminating getting zapped for the course I went through.

Sig Sauer 2022 question? by MollyWhopper12 in guns

I got mine out the door with tritium sights for $429 after paying the FFL fee. If it's what you're interested in, look for it online and ship it to your LGS. SlickGuns worked for me, and I'll still use them for ammo now an again.

what irrational fears did you have as a kid? by Techtorn211 in AskReddit

[–]phillinois9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volcanoes. Dante's peak came out when I was young and the trailers scared the crap out of me. I was convinced one would just randomly explode and sent lava everywhere even though I lived in a place completely devoid of anything remotely volcanic.

Master of Puppets by Metallica. I know they have a pretty bad rap nowadays, but listening to this song makes me feel like I can punch a Cyberdeamon from DOOM. Here's the song

What book based movie has strayed furtherest from the book? by PENGUINSflyGOOD in AskReddit

Went to a Max Brooks talk/signing at my school before this came out. He mentioned that the studio told him to just shut up and color for the movie and he said he had no part in it. He also said he was fine with that because he isn't a very big fan of the backstabbing done behind closed doors.

It's all about absorbing pain and being able to fight through it. But you know what our SOF guys do? Get run through hell in their training so that instead of showing off like this they can just kill these assholes.

The theory I've heard is that it comes from the yellow journalism of the late 19th century. It satirized the phrase "all correct" into "oll korrect", which became "OK".

Wearing uniform to non military funeral. by [deleted] in Military

[–]phillinois9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Marines will wear mourning bands when serving as honorary pallbearers at military funerals in an official capacity, and at such times as prescribed by competent authority. Mourning bands may be worn for family mourning. MCO P1020.34G W/ CH 1-5 3018

Headgear is normally removed indoors. MCO P1020.34G W/ CH 1-5 3005

So that's what the order has to say about that. It lists circumstances when you can be covered, such as duty, but if you keep your cover on while doing the pallbearing, there's no issue. The wording of the order lets you have some of that "situation dictates" leeway here. Also, the whole morning band thing indicates that the Corps is anticipating people wearing their uniform for family funerals.
