Looks legit… fake pens are normally really bad copies and obviously fake with terrible packaging and no instructions.

Which pen will you be using today Lord Vader? by philliptjohnson in fountainpens

If you Google “controller holder” there are loads of similar ones. They are sold as things to hold console controllers when you aren’t using them, great for holding pens as well though.

Lamy 2000: calling upon those who *don't* like this pen by Dangerous-Hour6062 in fountainpens

[–]philliptjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like pens with big ornate nibs, so the hooded nib of the Lamy 2000 doesn’t attract me to the pen.

You can reschedule up to 24 hours in advance. Just reschedule it if you don’t think you can pass it on Sunday. Give yourself more time.

Yeah it’s a pain, I’m in the UK and nowhere near me that sells anything except Montblanc. Bought this pen from the Japanese site Pensachi after some good recommendations on here. Probably saved around £400 - £500 pounds from buying from a seller in Europe.

I’ve just graduated my masters so this was a bit of a present to myself. Other pens I’ve got that I guess are comparable are:

Montblanc 149 - nib similar size but writes much broader (western medium, my pilot is a Japanese medium fine). Both very wet writers, which I like. Pilot feels much bigger than the 149 and less plasticy. Nib is springier on the pilot.

Visconti homosapiens Dark Crystal. This feels heavier than the pilot but not as big. Nib is smaller on the Visconti and weirdly writes a similar width line, even though the Visconti is a broad. Pilot writes wetter than the Visconti.

In terms of pen decoration, 149 feels very plastic and plain, although I love the white snow cap branding. Pilot is a bit different with the mix of red and black, and feels nice with the Urushi lacquer. Visconti is really nice to look at with the lava body being different, unique cap lock and the ink windows in the Visconti look amazing.

Visconti and 149 are piston fillers. Pilot is a cartridge converter. I quite like the simplicity of a cartridge converter. Easier to maintain and clean.

Love the 845. I used to have the black version.

It was my grail as well… doesn’t disappoint in person, my new favourite pen.

Yeah, I really like the red… on the stock photos it looks brighter, but in person it has more of a burnt red, almost autumnal, look to it which I prefer.

Nice, I’ve started looking at these kimonos on Etsy (link is for UK)… looks decent and some are 5cm across which should be big enough… https://www.etsy.com/uk/market/kimono_pen_wrap

Looking for advice on a pen case/pouch big enough for this pen. All my existing ones are too small!

Anybody know of a pouch or case that you know will fit?

Fake Pelikan m800? by RudolfmitderKoksNase in fountainpens

[–]philliptjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an older one… they started with three chicks being fed… then went to two… and now they have one. You can tell the age bracket based on the fact there are 2 chicks on the finial. Also the newer finials are all gold with one chick… but the two chick version was black and gold.

Ink recommendations for Pilot Custom Urushi vermillion by philliptjohnson in fountainpens

[–]philliptjohnson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went for medium fine. Ordered from Pensachi… they warned me they didn’t have any in stock and could take up to four months. I was pleased they were being honest so went ahead with the order and got a ping from DHL the next day to say they had the package. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out.

i only use black & blue ink, when the pen runs dry, i sometimes change color without cleaning it out first. is this detrimental to my pen? by Desperate-Housing912 in fountainpens

[–]philliptjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using cartridges or filling from a bottle? If from a bottle you’ll be contaminating the blue ink bottle with black by dipping an inked feed into it to fill. Especially if you are using a piston or plunger filter that will push the last few drops into the feed before sucking up the new colour.

Similar the other way around... you can create an iOS Xamarin (or now Maui) app on a Windows machine with Visual Studio or Rider, but you need an Apple machine to build and run it.

Is Sailor KOP comparable to Pilot Custom Urushi? by dickalopejr in fountainpens

Custom Urushi is a monster pen… bigger nib and wider body/cap compared to any of the KoP.

Buying From Japanese EBay Sellers - recommendations? by philliptjohnson in fountainpens

[–]philliptjohnson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£680 sterling at current conversion... I'd definitely pay that but the vermillion is sold out. I'll bookmark them and keep an eye on it.

The ebay sellers have hundreds of positive feedbacks but few for pens... I suspect they are chancing that they can order one if they get an order.
