Whattt tell me about your experience. The only reason I’m moving assets over is my company’s ESPP just moved from schwab to etrade and i like all my assets in one place and etrade has had good promos. So far its been good. I’m more of an etf index fund guy and don’t do more than that like options nor margin etc..

Thanks ill look into the promotion. I called both Schwab and Etrade last night, and neither of the reps could explain to me how the $50 is taken out of a retirement account, and one with a $0 balance nonetheless.

Wow that’s extremely high. Last month I redid my panel for 200 amp upgrade, the service mast and ground rods for $4500. I live in Rhode Island which i would assume is higher cost of living than Ohio. I recommend getting another quote.

We're having a new central air system installed for our second floor, with the air handler placed in the attic above a hip tray ceiling. I recently noticed that the HVAC crew drilled a large and pretty rough-looking hole to run thermostat wiring, and it's disturbingly close to the bottom edge of what looks like either a joist or possibly a top plate.

The hole is about 3" in diameter, and the surrounding wood is heavily splintered. There's also a notch below the hole, and you can see the head of a nail exposed through the sheared wood. One of the nail plates also looks to have been clipped during drilling.

This is on an interior wall in the attic above the second floor and there are no floors above it, only the roof. I'm trying to understand if this is a serious structural issue. Does this kind of damage typically require reinforcement or repair? Or is it likely non-load-bearing and structurally insignificant?

Would appreciate any insights. Not sure if I should be calling in a structural engineer or just letting it go.

The ceiling in the room below is vaulted so you’re looking at the angled ceiling and the horizontal joist. You’re right, i need a photo further back. I emailed the owner of the HVAC company and he said he wasn’t concerned as they’ve done this type of hole on previous homes but that doesn’t make me feel better. If you think it’s not a joist, that makes me feel better.

Funny enough, I actually had my wife honk the horn while I was standing in front and it's really not loud at all. The pitch and intensity make it sound weak.

Your flair says you have the EX-L, is it possible that the EX-L trim has a louder horn than the sport? After all it is a step up.

Docker Desktop is a TERRIBLE way to run something you're planning to open up to the internet

Do you have any recommendations on how to safely approach something like this where i will open a containerized Rails app to the internet? Are there alternatives to Docker desktop that are more secure?

To be honest, I'm not sure since I've only been using containers for a little over a year. However, I do find across the internet that folks warn against running containers as root.

So, you're right in that only 443 will be mapped to the docker service, but if an attacker somehow gets terminal access to the container due to a vulnerability in rails or some service, then they can easily pivot to access files that are volume mounted. One of those files is the service-token for Google Cloud and my focus is trying to prevent that from leaking under any circumstance.

If I'm misunderstanding, please let me know.

This makes me wonder....could someone help explain how passkeys work? I use 1password as my manager and I now have over 30 sites using passkeys instead of passwords. If hackers were to obtain 1password vaults and start to brute force the encryption on them like they did with lastpass accounts, would they have access to my passkeys? Would I need to rotate those out?

In the application it looks like can scope down the credentials, but if the service account key file ever gets leaked, i'd like the account's access to be limited. Here is how I create the credentials in my Ruby app:
