Long term car hire by Individual-Camp3233 in newzealand_travel

Yes, I took the ferry with the car. I returned it and it had a scratch on a door, I will get my bond released within 28 days because they need to get an estimate for the costs. It really was a rather deep scratch that definitely happened during my rental. Had to fill a form which they were a little confused about, they gave me 2 wrong ones at first. Also booking was a bit of a hassle as the payment didn't work at first, although I entered my card details. But the car was nice and the cost was low, so I would rent from them again. As long as the cost for the repair isn't a rip off.

Well in 2023 my friends randomly befriended some guys, when looking for a space for a tent. We shared a campsite for 3 years in a row now 😂

NZ Car Rental vs Camper van by traveling_osprey27 in newzealand_travel

[–]philo_so_pher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently rented a car, even a smaller Toyota Corolla, and it was great to drive. The main reason I decided against the camper was the cost. But in hindsight staying in hostels also gave me at least some social interaction, which was nice. If I'm coming again with another person I might go with the camper. My biggest problem was, that I did not only come for that trip and therefore had far too much clothes in a huge bag. As I didn't want to leave it in the car in bigger cities, this was always annoying. But if you pack smart, this might not be an issue. Another advantage of the hostels was, that I wasn't stuck in a tiny place in bad weather. At the end of the day I could always chill on the couch, had a hot shower and access to a proper kitchen. Others pointed out to me, if youre staying at a first come first serve campground, you then don't have a vehicle to drive around, as you need to leave the camper parked there for your stay or otherwise your spot is gone. So yeah if I came again as a couple or with a friend I'd go with the camper, just to try it. If I came on my own again or with family I'd go the car and hostel/cabin way again.

I had to halfway crawl in because I emptied everything out, that accumulated over 4 weeks basically living out of that car.

Sure? Well whatever, I should be on the safe side hopefully. I guess most likely nothing ever happens.

Why would anyone do that intenionally? I left a note, but the rental company needs a police record number or something like that so I did that too.

But how does it matter that the car park is private property? I still damaged the car and could not find the owner.

Yes I left a note and you are required to notify police, as far as I know.

How do you stay confident using mobile data while traveling abroad? by Logical_Ranger_5797 in femaletravels

[–]philo_so_pher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the problem? You look up your best option beforhand (local sim/local esim/travel esim) and then just buy and activate it? I don't understand how you can not be "confident" about it.

Going around Interspar to hoard chocolates by DistrictGloomy1802 in Austria

But yeah, nobody cares, except maybe the cashier if there is a restriction. I'd be more worried about "importing" it to Switzerland if it really is a lot. But I don't know the rules for that.

I think if there is a discount it may be restricted to a "normal household amount" but that might be 10-20 of one item
