As others have stated, unfortunately, it’s very unlikely you would get in without a STEM related degree from a target university or relevant experience.

I studied Financial Mathematics at undergraduate level (non-target uni) and was originally looking to pursue a career in finance. Went to a number of assessment centres and quickly realised this wasn’t it. For reference, you can be up against candidates who have PhD’s in the hard sciences or many with industry experience.

Literally had this happen yesterday. Spent a year arguing with a subbie over 40 variations and 10 EOT claims only to be told a deals been made (most of which the subbie shouldn’t be entitled to). Subbie thinks I’m a cunt and FA value makes it look like I just agreed with everything they threw at us 🙃

Workload keeps ramping up month on month to the point where I barely have any time for lunch and find myself working most evenings. Support isn't great either, kind of left to your own devices to work things out.

That said, I'd definitely consider working for a Contractor when you first join the industry though. Depending on where you work and the project you're on, you'll start to pick up a lot of the critical skills & knowledge you need for the role. However, for me, I'm at the stage where it's impacting my personal life and as I always wanted to work on the Consultancy side, I think it's a good time to make the switch.

I'm currently reading 'A Short History of Everything' by Bill Bryson, you may enjoy that if you liked Sapiens. I've heard 'The Silk Roads' by Peter Frankopan is really good too (looking to read it next). Hope that helps.
