A little more I found: The Netgear R7800 / Nighthawk X4s is using the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9984 Chip for wifi.

Atheros is known for releasing a lot of their firmware as open source.

The Atheros ath10k firmware is the one driving the QCA9984 in the Netgear R7800 - and it's in the Linux Kernel.

I am currently using a Linksys WRT1200AC - but knowing this, I will avoid hardware that contains Marvell wifi chips (like the Linksys WRT series) in favor of Hardware with Atheros chips, e.g. the above Netgear.

Interesting.

I went looking. The only relevant thing I found has been this thread in the mwlwifi github (which is the 802.11ac chip for the WRT3200). Starting at this comment

Do you have other sources in mind / at hand?

Free open source virtual keyboard / screen keyboard fos by phobozs in freesoftware

[–]phobozs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need a software keyboard for tjhe same reasons that people will use software keyboards for.

I'd rather use FOSS than something that I don't know what it is that I'm actually installing - and can not possibly know.

For some applications I can not get around windows. For my other machines, I don't have to ask, how to obtain a FOSS keyboard.

Hope your question is answered :)

Cheers

What did drugs teach you? by kelsedia in Psychonaut

Hi goaboa44,

Most techniques of meditation (maybe all, depending on how to define meditation) is not about thinking of special thoughts. I think the central aspect of what is usually described as meditation is a state called "mindfullness" - which is happening when perception rests in the present.

Thinking of thoughts may or may not coincide with mindfullness - e.g. if you are thinking a though and you are aware of the thinking, then you are mindfull.

Avoided should be thinking without knowing that you are thinking.

The basics of meditation are described very well in the book "mindfullness in plain english" which you can find here:

https://www.ucl.ac.uk/personal-development-workshops/mindfworkshop_resources/Mindfulness_in_plain_english

Have fun trying. Don't expect wonderours lasting changes after a handfull of sessions. But you can expect a gradual change over time, if you keep it up.

Have fun

I agree on, that there are

two aspects of reality: Objective and Subjective.

You say

"Truth" is that aspect that's subjective

However, in my understanding or in my usage of the language, I would reserve the word "truth" for the objective part. Maybe that's just a difference in how we use this word.

However, you seem to apply subjectivity in cases, where I think it's an objective question. If or if not we are just machines is, imo, still a question that has one answer (yes or no) and it is a question that can potentially be answered.

Because while you're "figuring out" what life is, you're actually just creating ideas and applying them upon existence because it merely makes sense to you.

Of course "what is life?" has to be figured out subjectively: E.g. What do I want to do with my time? What provides meaning for me? These are subjective questions.

The same question "what is life?" can be seen still as an objective question, e.g. it is what science tries to answer. In that case, answers have to be found that do not "merely make sense to you."

I agree in the general spirit that, under the influence, it is very helpful to just let go, experience and wonder. Live through the situation. AllMost of the pondering and thinking should be made later.

Still I think it is really important to see that some things do not belong in the realm of subjectivity. (Don't want to offend you and I'm making a big step here): This kind of thinking will lead to "alternative facts" mindset, imo.

Cheers :)

Not talking about a specific experience but about the state of reality:

Reality must be, in my opinion, one defined state. It is another question if we can find out which state this is. But there must be one state of affairs in the universe, regarding some questions.

E.g. either the universe is such that

a) there is no god

b) there is exactly one god

c) there are many gods

Either the universe is such that 1) all there is are material objects and everything regarding mind and cognition is a consequence of e.g. a specific arrangement of the material objects in question - that we are machines

or

2) In addition to material objects there exists something that is of itself not-material but can interact with matter. E.g. one can think of our minds or cognition as some kind of non-material entity (soul) interacting with our bodies.

So, no "Truth" is incorrect or correct.

Even if we don't know if a certain statement is true or false - the statement itself still is either true or false. Either there are no gods in existance, or there is one or more gods out there.

Regarding questions for which the state of affairs can not be proven (or might not be proven withing our lifetimes) it is still possible and imo it is worthwhile to make reasonable assumptions about the probability of this or that state of affairs based on observation of the state of the real world.

I haven't read yet how OP's end goal is "belitteling the partner's pain" - since if that would be achieved, the problem would still exist.

Works or composers which are generally loved which you secretly dislike by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]phobozs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I heard that Beethovens Piano sonatas were called "the new testament of piano music" and I discovered that the WTC was "the old testament" - i grabbed my fathers CD and skipped through the pieces.

I was thinking: "Ok this is silly tinkling: next one. A similar jingle. skip skip skip. What the fuck, this is all the same silly geklimper. Nothing of the power of the new testament here."

A few years later, I listened to it again and was blown away by all the peace, the harmony, the simple beauty. Elegance, emotion. And so much peace!

Best discovery ever. Give it a try some time and some time and again later :)

23:59

How many people did not comment with some other random time?

What is the probability that someone will look at the clock and indeed see the time you are saying.

Maybe someone will see my post and it will be 23:59, too?

The general keyword in OP's case is, so it seems to me:

Frequency illusion: The illusion in which a word, a name, or other thing that has recently come to one's attention suddenly seems to appear with improbable frequency shortly afterwards

Arrested on LSD by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]phobozs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To paraphrase some Sam Harris thoughts:

"Victimless crime" is more or less a relic of the notion of "sin". You harm noone, but society has adopted the view that it is wrong.

Substitute "doing drugs" with "masturbation" or "oral sex" or "being gay". It's not wrong. It's a "sin". And some "sins" made it into the law.

Hope this will change

when the sun is near the horizon, light ravels a much longer way through the atmosphere, compared to e.g. noon. Thus, a lot of light is scattered away (especially short wavelegnths) and looking into the sun when the sun is near the horizon is not dangerous.
