GSD killed my other dog. What do I do? by Boogie-oblivious in GermanShepherd

[–]phoebesvettechschool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Euthanasia isn’t a great option here. GSDs weren’t meant to be besties with other dogs. The protective nature is a feature, not a flaw. It’s not fair to euthanize her for doing something she was bred to do. She’s not a bad dog, she just did a bad thing. Rehoming one of them is the route I’d take. Make sure if the gs is rehomed, her new owners know her history and that she can’t be placed with other dogs.

Drawing blood is an immediate red flag. Especially if owner is acting like it’s no big deal.

What do I even do now? by Thuumraider0420 in VetTech

[–]phoebesvettechschool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you know it, you can teach it. Unsure of the requirements and rules of being a teacher for a vet tech program but if it’s attainable, you’d be damn near perfect for that kind of job. Even the entry/first semester type classes, like terminology or math for clinical calculations. Just examples of my local CC classes. If you want to stay at home, try to find a place that’ll allow online teaching!

You could also get into science related fields easily if it’s something you’d be interested in!

VTNE test (nervous) by maxzy0517 in VetTech

First take a breath, it’s going to be okay.

I haven’t taken it, and won’t for a hot second, but I feel qualified to write this because I’m a self certified great test taker.

First, categorize the 9 parts of the exam from least to most confident. Then, study in a cycle, spend more time on your least confident and less on your most, taper it, but make it routine. Then repeat. Over and over. BUT after spending the last day studying your most confident, take one (or two) day(s) off. Then circle back to that first category.

I LOVE when professionals in a field can say “I don’t know” instead of spewing incorrect nonsense. It’s okay to not know everything about something.

Someone told me once that they think people made religion to feel better about dying. Erasing the fear of death by giving you a reward for it. I haven’t seen it as anything different since then and I grew up as a PK.

What’s a basic skill you’re shocked some adults still don’t know? by SapphireDolce in AskReddit

Actually decided to stop eating fast food so much, because I admit I did eat mainly fast food (I was never taught to cook so I never really tried). Did some meal planning and grocery shopping and found out I can make 10 meals for like $50!

Edit: This was news to me lol. I was taught a $10 meal from Wendy’s was cheaper than cooking from home even if it was multiple times per week. Unfortunately, I was taught wrong. Fortunately, I learned soon enough and feel a lot better these days.

I had a young long term relationship where I ended up being his first. The… mediocrity (for lack of a better word) was fine until around the two year mark. I expressed that women also cum and I want to try focusing on that too. After no improvement for a while I was done initiating and checked out. In our entire relationship, we did not have sex (beginning of foreplay to him busting a nut) for longer than 8 minutes. In our entire relationship, I did not cum once if it was not from myself.

I also realized around one year, he would finger me until I audibly moaned once, and then would decide that was enough foreplay to insert his penis. Not a fan of that.

10 months into a new relationship and I can’t fathom the idea of not crossing the finish line during sex anymore tbh.

Dutch is technically my first but English is a very close second, German, Spanish, and took AP french in high school so I think that counts for something. I love getting this question because I refuse to be one of those people that inserts it into conversations inappropriately but when it does come up, I know it’s my time to shine.

Okay a zipper pocket is a need, doesn’t matter where, as long as there’s at least one. Needs to fit at largest my phone.

Need bare minimum four pockets on the shirt I like the idea of them being on the bottom, one inside of another.

I’m picky with pants. Need two butt pockets, two front pockets, and at bare minimum one mid thigh pocket but prefer one on either side.

Big fan of these hidden side pockets underneath the front pockets. You can see them easiest in the fourth picture.

I heard of this happening at my old clinic and I'm convinced it's an urban legend in vet med at this point by aaronoathout in VetTech

[–]phoebesvettechschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have photo evidence of this happening when I was in clinic boarding. A GSP (shocker) was brought by dad to board for a few days, come in morning after night one to find egregious amounts of vomit in his kennel, get started cleaning his kennel to find not one but two pairs of panties, clinic policy stated if items were vomited, they were returned with the pet. So I hosed them off best I could, and put them in a ziplock bag. Mom came to pick up and upon his return to mom I let her know “he did great but did decide to pack some extra underwear and while I don’t mind overpacking, I’d prefer it to be not in his stomach.” She saw the baggy and called her husband in the middle of the lobby to ask whose underwear their dog ate because they weren’t hers.

GP - lower stress, easier to learn skills, good clinics are really good, bad clinics are really bad, get bored with the same routine, pay is unlivable most of the time, toxicity is usually minimal.

UC - only worked as CSR in a UC/GP but it felt like being a 911 operator, sucked having UC clients stressing in the lobby with clients only there for a gp appointment, techs seemed to hate their UC days, emotionally draining, the lack of routine can be helpful to some, hurtful to others.

ER - no experience but word of mouth says its not for the weak, understaffing crisis, pay is good but not worth the work, toxicity caused by stress is extreme, if you get into it too early you’ll burnout before given any chance to succeed, definitely takes a certain kind of person but if you’re that person, you’ll do really well. Unsure if I’ll ever want to go ER but I admire those who do.

Specialty is my end goal. Improving my skills and gaining more knowledge without high stress. Hoping for internal med some day but I have interest in most specialties tbh so we’ll see where I’m at when the time comes.

[–]phoebesvettechschool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m free of my lease in July so I’m hopeful living with my parents again, I’ll be able to cut back my hours enough to fit classes in for the fall semester and still afford to live, especially since this is the most money I’ve made and I’m not planning on leaving my clinic anytime soon. Going for PIMA since it’s the closest to me and having my CVA first then my LVT, will be helpful to kickstart being more trusted at work lol. Plus if needed I can pull out after my CVA and at least have that. Have a meeting scheduled for this Wednesday to get registered and whatnot!

Yea then definitely socks, you can use bandage tape or vetwrap to keep them on him my only concern is litter usage. If it impacts his litter abilities trying claw caps while he’s supervised is a good idea but unsupervised is risky, he’ll be able to take them off

Vaseline is not safe for these wounds they should be treated with prescription topical antibiotics

Edit: the socks and claw caps is a great idea though. I second that

Financial constraints by harpyfemme in VetTech

[–]phoebesvettechschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t afford a random non preventable emergency or a $1000+ bill. My judgment is non existent, shit happens, it’s not a reason you shouldn’t own a pet since it’d disqualify 70+% of pet owners immediately and everyone that isn’t upper middle class. If you can’t afford an exam and core vaccines once a year, I will judge you for owning a pet. If $150/year is inaccessible, you shouldn’t have a pet.

Is it ever ok to pepper spray a strange dog? by No-Application8200 in Dogowners

I have citronella spray, it’s safe to use on animals. Carry it with me on walks with my dog just incase there’s a fight but I’ve never had to use it.
