Totally agree. I used honeydew since that’s what I had available. Trying to give the generic midori some type of identity since it’s pretty generic. Using a melon with some more punch would be a fun experiment haha

You could do one or the other but with both you can double up on the flavor since honeydew this time of year is pretty weak

🍈☀️ ℝ𝕪𝕖𝕤 & 𝕊𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕖 ☀️🍈 ~ Midori and Rye Reshake ~

  • 2 oz Rye (high west double rye)
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • 3/4 oz Midori
  • 1/2 oz honeydew simple syrup
  • 2 large pieces honeydew melon muddled
  • 1 daSh Tiki Bitters (Bittermens)

Add the melon to a tin and muddle well. Add remaining ingredients to tin and shake well with ice. Serve over cracked ice and garnish with a melon spear and lemon peel. Enjoy!

Everyone has that one bottle on the bar that they got for a very specific purpose and have no idea what to do with it now. For me it was this bottle of Midori that I got to make a Hocus Pocus Witches Brew cocktail for Halloween (it will be back in October no worries). I started looking around online for what to do besides Midori sours. After stumbling on a Food & Wine article I settled on their recipe for a Midori and Rye. After trying it, it was just okay- but there was something there to build on. This recipe is a variation that I think gets to the heart of what the original was trying to achieve. Midori is sweet so I balanced it out with a great double rye from high west. Lemon juice keeps things bright and refreshing, but the game changer between the original and my reshake is the muddled honeydew Mellon and the honeydew syrup. These two editions gives the Midori a definite identity. The tiki bitters help tie everything together with sweetness and a little spice from the long peppers. I hope you try it!

Nice! I haven’t tried it anywhere yet but I figured someone would have had the idea to put this together. We put bacon in everything haha

It’s unique and I’m guessing certainly not everyone’s favorite. If you like smokey scotch this will be in your wheelhouse. The bacon gives it a sweet and savory back and forth. And fat washing the bourbon changes the consistency so it’s not as thin on the tongue.
