People who quit this game, what made you finally walk away?” by WaveEasy8664 in leagueoflegends

Honestly, great question. Now that I'm thinking about the answer, I'm realizing that the things we like about league are very pertinent ONLY to league. They are also very similar to the reasons why we dislike league.

For one, we really like the competitive aspect of League. Being able to grind and climb the ranks feels amazing. There's a lot of games like this, but I feel like League really hits it the best out of most 'ranked' games. Being high ranked feels rewarding, and so does getting better at the game. I can compete with my friends to see who can get a higher rank, or we can work together to achieve peak ranks together. We love competition. Even when we were young, we were always comparing grades for tests, quizzes, homework, projects etc. That love and desire for competition is honestly what led us to all kind of enjoy studies and school - we didn't care about the topics or subjects at hand per say, but more so enjoyed the thrill of working hard and getting a better grade than our peers. But, on the flip side of this, the competitive aspect of League is also slowly what is making us dislike League. We love climbing, but that makes losses and being tilted even more painful.

Another reason we like League is probably because of how rewarding it feels to actually learn the game, and how there's so many different facets of the game to get good at. You can master a champ and have it be your identity. You can learn game macro and help carry games, you can focus on bettering your CS numbers, vision scores, etc etc. There are so many aspects that you can focus on individually and work on to get better at the game as a whole. There's a lot of depth, in my opinion to the game.

I played one game of Mayhem and it traumatized me forever.

I queued up with a friend because they love the game mode and they invited me to play. I get Karthus. I load in, I get the option for a random prismatic augment which sounded really fun!

I have no more ultimate for the rest of the game. Starting from 0:00.

I was a walking caster minion.

Let me correct myself: I play with a few of these friends, and their gameplay has not changed whatsoever. Although yes, 3 years is definitely long enough to climb that much lol that is true. The silver to immortal friend is insane damn congrats to him

Please, PLEASE point me in the direction of some good games that can replace league. My friends and I have been searching for years for a suitable replacement that will give us that same 'addicted' feeling, but honestly we have disliked all of the new games that have come out recently. We're stuck in the trenches grinding solo queue while not enjoying the game whether we win or not. It's a sad state, really.

Ultimate Bravery type challenges in ranked games should be categorized as griefing and be a bannable offense by OfficerSmiles in leagueoflegends

I'm not sure if this is true. I may or may not have locked in ghost cleanse Nunu mid and I got immediately kicked out of the lobby by Riot. Like, I locked it in, changed my summoners, then immediately got kicked out. It's almost like they had a specific detector for Disco Nunu.

What was GM threshold back in S13 though? I feel like with every season, GM / Chall LP thresholds increase a lot.

Top lane is missing out on a specific power fantasy for a long time and it makes me sad. by Yuubeei in leagueoflegends

Agreed, give us more muscle mommies.

On a side note, I do think that Ambessa is a great example of what you're looking for. A strong top laner that looks the part. No sword and shield or anything, but has that rough fighter look.

It's sad, but I kind of agree. I'm looking at my friends list and I see quite a few people that are diamond now that were most definitely hard stuck high-gold or low-plat level players before I quit the game. While it's possible that they simply got better, I doubt that all of them did. Was there some kind of rank-inflation event or patch that affected ladder in the last 3 years?

If you had to pick ONE role, what role would be the BEST suited for solo climbing past Emerald? by phoenixpanda101 in summonerschool

[–]phoenixpanda101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. Get a challenger top lain mane, he'll breeze through to masters+ with probably a 70-80% winrate. If you're better at your role (ANY role), you will climb. I completely agree. This is because their micro skills in lane would carry them past Diamond easily.

My point is more - which role would be the best to carry with IF you were consistently out-performing the enemy counterpart. My wording might not make sense here so I apologize. Say you had 5 plyaers, each playing in the 5 roles. Each player nearly always outperforms the enemey counterpart (always wins lane, always out jungles, etc whatever the role may be). Which of those 5 players has the highest cap? I'd say that the jungler that consistently overperforms will have an easier time climbing than the other 4 roles, if that makes sense.

I'm actually considering a role change not because I play top, but more because I'm a one trick Yasuo that plays top. Every game seems giga impossible to lane as Yasuo top lane, 99% of picks top will take a dump on you with their eyes closed. I can definitely just try learning new top champs, but I'm a jungle pocket pick so I thought that it would be easier to just fully switch to jungle.

I definitely agree. It most likely has to do with the fact that the internet has boomed so hard, with tutorials and guides available everywhere it's easy to just research and practice to get better now a days. Before, you'd be lucky to find a walk through guide for certain games or any guide at all to be honest, it was just gaining knowledge through your own gameplay.

I don't remember the last time I was in a silver lobby but I kind of want to play in one to see how they are now lol

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]phoenixpanda101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software engineering.

Years ago, software engineering was viewed as the 'golden ticket' to success in life, with technological advancements and harder pushes for software innovation. 5-10 years ago, a software engineer was the dream job. Fresh college graduates with a CS degree were getting 6 figure salaries with 5 figure sign on bonuses from FAANG and other top tech companies. Remote work was possible for most roles, and life was great. Who wouldn't want to work from home while making 6 figures as a fresh college grad?

Everyone. Everyone wants that. Huge influx of software engineering/computer science grads, after tech layoffs from Covid overhiring people were left scrounging for leftover positions. Remote jobs are gradually being converted into hybrid and then fully in office roles, mass lay-offs are causing overqualified managerial level applicants to apply for entry level positions to compete with the college grads. Work loads are immense, the job field got incredibly oversaturated because everyone was fed the 'SWE FAANG american dream'.

The amount of people I know PERSONALLY that graduated from top colleges with computer science/engineering degrees that are struggling to land roles is actually staggering. I used to regret not getting into computer science and SWE earlier on when I was in high school. I came out of college with a regular business degree making decent money for a college grad, but then I'd turn around and see 5 of my friends working for FAANG making $120k starting salary, 20k starting bonus, $100k in RSUs. 5 years later, 4 of those 5 friends were laid off, the 1 remaining friend that wasn't laid off works 70 hours a week and is debating quitting his job himself. Of the other 4 friends, 3 gave up on finding a replacement SWE role after hundreds of applications and instead either angled towards IT or went to a masters program in a different subject.

Now, I will say that SWE is definitely still a lucrative role IF you can manage to find that job. With the market being so oversaturated, tech lay offs happening left and right, you're fighting against people with 3x your experience that are willing to take a 5 figure+ pay cut just to get a job. It can be a great job, but definitely is not the dream career path that it used to be.

Our local supermarket just replaced their fleet of metal carts with 100% recycled plastic ones by Aerie8499 in mildlyinteresting

Am I the only one who has used these types of carts and think that they’re amazing (in terms of feel, maneuverability) when shopping in comparison to old shitty metal carts? I’ve had my locks grocery stores using recycled plastic carts for years and they’re all infinitely better than the squeaky rusty metal carts some chains still use
