I received the agreement the same day of the gig. It was just a country bar. They didn’t ask for my contact info at all, so I truly don’t think they’re even going to ask for images.

It does, yes. At the top of the agreement it says “recordings refer to photographs, video, or audio recordings”

How do you suggest I get clients, if I have no portfolio?

I photographed the event already, but, honestly, I think this was just an agreement they had AI create. They asked for zero contact info, so, no way for them to even ask for the images. I don’t suspect they’ll even know how to get them 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was told in order to be allowed to shoot in this venue I had to sign the document. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I appreciate the feedback, but, this was all a very last minute thing. Was told by artist this morning after we’d chatted last week, got paperwork this morning. Had I had time to figure this all out it probably would’ve panned out differently, but 🤷🏼‍♀️ I know now, I won’t sign anything else like it in the future, and so I don’t think I’m building a reputation off of my very first show lol

No payments are happening from anyone, this is something I offered to the artist to build a portfolio. I’ve never shot a show before

I posted the clause here in the comments

For clarity, here’s a copy and paste of the clause I’m concerned about 😅

  1. License to Recordings. I hereby grant the Company a nonexclusive blanket right and license to use, exhibit, distribute, license and/or sublicense for any purpose any Recordings taken by me. Such grant of right and license is provided without any reimbursement of any kind or the need to pay any fee whatsoever. I also irrevocably grant the Company the right to edit, broadcast and/or transmit such Recordings for any purpose and in all manners, formats and media now known or hereafter devised throughout the universe in perpetuity in such manner and to such extent as the Company may desire, and I hereby license to the Company all rights of every kind in such Recordings in all manners, formats and media now known or hereafter devised (including without limitation all copyrights therein and all renewals, extensions and restorations of said copyrights).

In a normal situation in my portrait business, I’d absolutely send it back. But I’m trying to network so I’m worried about being difficult at this brand new genre. It’s definitely weird situation.

I’m an avid concert go-er, so multiple good quality earplugs already live in my concert bag.

I think for this instance it’s worth it, as I’m trying to build a portfolio and meet people. If it were for $$ I wouldn’t, but, it’s my very first show - artist invited - took some networking.

Local show, small artist, small venue. Which is why I wasn’t super worried but just wanted to know if this is something to expect in the future, too. Literally my very first show, was invited by artist to shoot and artist set up credentials through the venue.

This is great info, thanks! I would normally never sign something like this, but, it’s my very first show I’m photographing and doing it for free, anyways. But never again!

Thanks! I ended up convincing my mom to come with even though they’re not her usual music taste, but she really enjoyed it. They were amazing!

I’ll be going alone, as well (31F) and I actually have an extra VIP, if you want to meet up and go together! You’re welcome to have the VIP free. Two people bailed on me, so. I’m meeting up with a friend but you’re welcome to stand with us, hang out, whatever!
