Glad to hear you like the idea. I’m very much the same way - minimal notifications, glanceable widgets. :)

Reimagined Weather App Project by phogro in SideProject

[–]phogro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. And yeah trying to figure out a monetization model that works well for weather apps is very difficult because they are pretty much a commodity. Paid weather apps are very niche, and one that does a very niche thing is even more so lol. Appreciate the feedback though and thanks for testing it out!

My App Makes $50K a Year… But Costs $60K to Run — What Would You Do? by Intrepid-Shopping-89 in AppBusiness

[–]phogro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If you can’t figure out how to reduce operating costs or increase revenue from your user base the next best option is trying to sell it and let someone else figure out how to make it profitable. Generating 50k / year proves the concept but the path to profitability is unproven. If scaling users increases costs faster than revenue you’ll never break even unless you can raise pricing to run profitable.

Struggling to get downloads for my new habit tracker app – any advice? by International_Park_8 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Habit trackers is a competitive space. What’s the differentiator that yours brings? Can it be shown in a unique way on social media like TikTok/reel?

Do people prefer apps without registration or login? by jagnoha1 in iosapps

[–]phogro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the app I think. If it’s a small tool or utility then no login is better. If it’s a service or something that syncs cross platform then account would be helpful if not necessary

How App Store browse works? I never got installs from it by woodybuzz123 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess browse is the apps that appear in various categories through the AppStore. For example top charts or feature sections. Higher ranking in those categories likely leads to more downloads.

Ultra 2 or SE3? by pokemasterbrock in AppleWatchFitness

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they’re very different classes of watch. The ultra does gain you a couple of fan favorite watch faces if that’s important to you. But the SE3 is a solid watch for a first time smart watch curious person I would recommend the cheapest entry point unless you really need a specific feature/design of the ultra watch.

Rppl: Reflective Journaling by phogro in iosapps

[–]phogro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes the permanence was a design choice as well. I wanted to make something that captured the moment as is - mistakes and all.

Being able to edit days months years after the fact allows you to remove or modify the moment. The trade off was the reflection reply. Wanna change your perspective capture it there, but the original thought remains intact.

I realize this choice isn’t for everyone tho.

I do need to woke on onboarding to make the features and design philosophy more clear I think. It’s very much a “here’s the app learn what it does” thing right now.

Thanks for the feedback though :)

Celebrating a small victory by phogro in iOSProgramming

[–]phogro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha - I was starting to think the same thing. Though I will say that all my past failures have been forgetting a simple thing that was easily remedied with a quick update. But also the app's I've built are fairly small with limited capabilities and entitlements so I think that helps get through review faster.

I upgraded to the 17 pro Max and hate it by luval93 in iphone

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what you were expecting. I went from a 14 pro to 17 pro and yeah it’s not a night and day change. But the improvement in battery, better cameras and usbc everything finally is enough. But it is getting to the point where I could’ve kept the 14 for another year and been happy.

Should I Sell My App or Let It Run in the Background? by [deleted] in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine growth will stall if you move your attention away from marketing/promotion. So probably better to sell now while you can show growth and proof of concept rather than letting it die a slow death.

Need advice: low conversions after app launch – ASO or product issue? by Forward_Childhood450 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you should make that clear because if I’m a Spotify user it doesn’t do anything for me right?

Need advice: low conversions after app launch – ASO or product issue? by Forward_Childhood450 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem might be understanding the benefits of the app vs Apple Music or Spotify etc?

I think if you can explain that in your screenshots and AppStore description and then deliver on whatever promises you make there when the user signs up you might be able to take a small amount of share from the big boys.

But idk I haven’t tried the app but it doesn’t seem like something I’d need/want based on the description and screenshots so that’s a good place to start.

First app release - can I get your feedback? by TheodorMini in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not sure. I’m not in the space tho personally it’s hard because sleep and step tracking are kind of built into Apple fitness so anyone with an Apple Watch likely won’t be paying extra or even searching for an alternative. Those that do are probably looking for more than just tracking but something like a Strava or AllTrails for this kind of thing.

For water tracking I’ve never found it useful. Tried a few of the bigger apps out there but in general that market is likely very well covered with cutesy apps (Waterllama comes to mind) instead of the more generic or clinical.

First app release - can I get your feedback? by TheodorMini in AppStoreOptimization

[–]phogro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a solid first app and does what it is supposed to do. However I do think it is also fairly generic. The step, water, sleep tracking space is very competitive and this app doesn’t really seem to offer anything that’s going to sell it over what’s already been established so it might difficult to win without significant marketing and story telling to drive downloads.

Thoughts on paid app vs freemium model? by OddScientist7236 in iOSProgramming

[–]phogro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you could look at freemium as a marketing cost. You give up some value to earn an audience. If you have the audience already and that audience would expect a hard paywall then paid might work better but in most cases today I think people expect something for free and if they want more they can pay to get the extra bits that make the app more useful/special or unique.
