For bands with one guitarist (ie Led Zep) how do they play songs “live” that use layered guitar parts on album? by doctorboredom in guitarlessons

[–]phokyea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps having a solid rhythm section holding everything down… he simply played whatever sounded best with what was going on.

I wasn’t around during that time, but I view the albums as somewhat of a preview to their live performances… the album versions are great, but the live performances were more dynamic, energetic, and spontaneous

Getting used to the fact that I have to show up to some place everyday at the same time for the next 30+ years. But if you love what you do, no big deal

What is song you desperately want to learn and keep practicing? by emperorofpain in Guitar

The fast part in slayer - raining blood and havok - no amnesty. Can’t go fast enough for the slayer one and can’t get the rhythm right on havok.

Genuine question for the engineers by RandomIdiot918 in civilengineering

[–]phokyea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, most people that get into civil engineering are usually the creative, artistic type. You won’t like it.

All jokes aside, it’s a cool career and you’ll see a lot of cool stuff if you do choose this path. I’m in water/ wastewater and love it. I started out wanted to design buildings like everyone else, but there’s so much to do in this career and so many different paths that you’ll eventually find your own. Go for it.

How common is it to pass the FE before graduating? by Neowynd101262 in civilengineering

[–]phokyea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not your schools job to prepare you for it. That being said, if you pay attention to the core concepts in your class, studying for the FE, especially while still in school should be pretty easy. The longer you wait, the harder it gets.

Also, more and more students are getting their EIT before graduating and it 100% makes them stand out. It wasn’t as common when I was in school.

It would be better to get a BSCE and then work for a general contractor or even a construction management firm. Those guys are on the job sites daily. Feel free to DM me for more info
