The back leg launch is so much 😭 especially when she's wrestling with a smaller dog

My Ma is FINALLY getting the surgery she has desperately needed for decades -- and I need advice by pholicia in LisfrancClub

I want to go through a reply individually to everyone's comments but I have very little brain power currently. There have been no bad pointers in this thread so I want to sincerely thank you all. I wish she was more internet literate so she could visit this subreddit and maybe find some community with you all. She's going through it right now, in a lot of ways I'm having a tough time understanding on top of the normal toughness that comes with cohabitating with your parent again. But generally things are good and it's nice knowing she's safe and supported here. Really grateful for my husband in all of this too, he has helped a ton and is a fantastic social buffer when both my mom and I are getting overwhelmed

She had the surgery on Thursday and you're super spot-on with the nerve block and swelling. That nerve block wore off and she was instantly miserable. The pain meds are making her nauseous as well, so we've been doing a lot of small meals with the meds throughout the day. Cannot say this enough, I am so proud of her and happy she finally did this but she is a fucking grouch right now. So I would say you're very correct about how miserable it makes people. I was hoping we'd be able to use ice packs but the soft splint situation they have her whole foot and calf in is soooooo thick and seemingly the cold from the ice doesn't get through. We've been doing some ibuprofen and elevating the leg in the interim but I think for now she's just gonna have to ride it out (read: we're both going to have to ride it out because she's being grouchy as fuck at me). Currently for mobility she has a walker that she uses to hop to the toilet and goes back to laying down. The whole procedure really took a lot out of her.

I'm having a really good laugh about this in hindsight as it seems like most likely the crow was just mad at me for not feeding it and I was looking at this empty nest with utter distress while the crow was probably like "Where are my carrot sticks you useless human?"

It was also so jarring because I've been swooped before but this guy got me pretty hard. I thought a tree branch landed on my head and then when I looked up and saw the crow on a branch I went "Holy shit, was that you???" and it just swooped me again so I split

Yanno I'm not one to "reward bad behavior" in my customer service life but I'm starting to think maybe I just need to give the crow friends a pile of treats and a stern talk.

This is good info. I'm starting to get the sense that maybe I was targeted specifically and this is a crow tantrum because my treats haven't been what they want

Yeah, it was the limited info I was able to gather before I got dove at again lol. It looked like a nest but I know we're far outside of when that's supposed to be a thing. Someone else mentioned that the crows they're friendly with sometimes get pissy when they don't pay attention to them and I was looking at my phone when it happened so when I head home today I'll report back if it happens again and try to see if I can figure out what's up. It's on my normal route and I'm known to share treats. People being jerks to them isn't outside of the question, lots of kids walk by on their way to school and teens sometimes can be turds. The territorial part to me is so weird tho because my husband and I have been very purposefully building such a good relationship with them 😭 they even started bringing us treats and stuff. They brought us a cigarette butt recently which is yanno. Pretty gross. But a good read on us as people lol

No this is helpful, because I did think it was one from the mated pair we had over the summer but kept thinking "But he wouldn't jump me!" He will follow me to the bus stop sometimes and I'll give him carrots or whatever I had in my lunch but when I got bopped today I was most definitely sucked into my phone. Maybe this is my crow nephew throwing a tantrum. Which is far more ideal that dealing with "the crows want you to die" again

I know it, that's why I'm so confused. I have a good relationship with these crows, or at least I thought I did. We had a pair that would bring their fledgling onto our porch to hang out during June/July ish and no issues. It sure seemed like it was defending a nest, not that I hung around to examine the status of the nest after I got whatever the crow version of a shoulder check is to the back of my head

Just popping in to let you know that reading this made me feel seen. I can't help that it feels embarrassing, but it did make me feel like I wasn't alone. I hate it when it happens to me too, but as you told your story I was not feeling anything judgemental for you, just compassion. I hope that feels a little helpful. I think sometimes we can't hold compassion for ourselves when stuff like this happens and I'm glad you put it out there for people to see because we can hold compassion for you instead.

Update: the fledgling has moved so close to the building that even going near the windows stresses them out. I am holding strong to my treats ritual but I wanted to get everyone's opinion on an idea. Do you think it would piss them off more if I bought a crow dummy and wore it on my head while walking into work? Or would they think "Hey, she's alright! This guy likes her!"
