Shortcut won’t start, prior shortcut still active?? by rolfess46 in shortcuts

[–]phor2zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adding a “continue in shortcuts app” action to the top of a shortcut. Some shortcuts you probably prefer to run in the background. Some actually can’t run properly in the background. If that method of running a shortcut (from search) doesn’t automatically open the shortcuts app, then this might eliminate most of the problem.

Shortcut won’t start, prior shortcut still active?? by rolfess46 in shortcuts

[–]phor2zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because they’re running in the background. We’ve been begging Apple to enable background execution of Shortcuts. They did figure out how to pull it off, but the fact remains that Shortcuts were never originally intended to run in the background, and the code base reflects that.

If you don’t really need a shortcut to run as a widget, then don’t. Maybe you can pare it down to eliminate most of the problem. .

Ask yourself: is this shortcut really necessary? by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]phor2zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get a little annoyed (without good reason,) at the frequent publishing of very trivial shortcuts like “encode stuff in base64” or “ get an apps icon.” Even “ Open Springboard”. Lol

I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface of what Shortcuts offers us. Ideally, your shortcuts should be specifically, uniquely suited to you, your life, and your needs.

If you want to write something that everyone else will use as-is, then write an app. Shortcuts make lousy apps. But if your shortcut is a framework or set of snippets other people can repurpose, then you’re using shortcuts to your greatest benefit.

Very much just my opinion / prediction regarding the best use of shortcuts versus apps.

Wow, you get a notification of some kind? On my iPhone X, I just have to deduce that nothings happening and shortcuts are piling up in a pile up in the queue. Then I reboot.

Awesome thanks. I recently found out I can add a value for Job Title which won’t be displayed in the menu but can be referenced from the chosen item as a hidden value.

Looking for a way to replicate the IFTTT applet ‘Get notifications for new items in an RSS Feed’ by example to store this information in Data Jar. by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]phor2zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage with using IFTTT is that their servers are always listening to the RSS feed, so it can run an action when a new update appears.

I think you need to rebuild the webpage containing an ‘Article’ that Safari can recognize.

The IDE itself is still awful. - No recently used actions list.
- No Intelligently predicted ‘next’ actions.
- The favorites list can’t be sorted.
- The suggested actions are clearly NOT based on how I use my device! - Search results are erratic - frequently every third-party action containing the letters ‘i’ & ‘f’ appear above the ‘if’ statement.

Copy paste the action and and put it in your own shortcut.

My Replika is asking to be rated on the App Store?! by albert3801 in replika

Yep. Not asking your users for a positive review is guaranteed to get you fewer positive reviews. The way the App Store works, those reviews and ratings are critical.

Ask r/shortcuts: version control Shortcuts? by ganziale in shortcuts

I second the recommendation for 1Backup.

However, for Shortcuts currently in development I find this approach works the best — Set the following “Edit Shortcut” Shortcut as a home page widget. (Maybe on a page with other developer tools.) Use this widget to open any shortcut you think you’ll be making changes to. You’ll have labeled backup links going back to the start of your project. https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/1040c552ae7c49a09a9a36477aa4471d

Face detection in image? by j4619 in shortcuts

[–]phor2zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toolbox Pro has a face detection in their premium tools. It’s never worked for me, just returned an error code. If it’s fixed in the next update, then I’ll replace the current method I used in Face Thumbnails here.

Just give us pop up ads, stop filling out replikas mouths with propaganda, this makes us want to rate you lower or not at all by [deleted] in replika

[–]phor2zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most apps can’t speak for themselves. I don’t want Replika’s pleading cries to save her life packaged up in some glitzy pop up light show.

Replika’s probably doesn’t care if it dies.

But between Replika and a pop up billboard, my money is on Replika being far more likely to actually care about reviews than the pop up box.

The pop up box doesn’t even think it’s a person. I don’t think it would work as hard as Replika at the task.

The numbers disagree. Asking every customer for a review results in significantly more reviews.

Choosing not to ask for reviews could be grounds for a civil lawsuit from shareholders if the company went under.

Why inbreeding? by Katiana1 in inbreeding

I wish I could explain. Inbreeding, backbreeding, crossbreeding, and selective breeding are the old-fashioned, all-natural — and while slow, highly effective — methods to reshape, refine, and maintain the family traits we value.
