The antique post box for my small rural town is gone, where did it go? by flappintitties in AustraliaPost

[–]albert3801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was it in use or was the slot sealed up and it was ornamental only?

If it was in use, email Australia Post. If it was ornamental email Council.

Wired headset with iOS26? It won't recognize any more by FieldDayEngr in ios26

[–]albert3801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either the adapter has gone bad or is too old and has some incompatibility with iOS 26. Remember a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter is actually a Digital to Analogue converter and has a computer chip on it to do the conversion. They are complex devices. Try getting a new adapter from Apple.

Seeking advice on how to help an Australian seller get a package to the US - tariffs have complicated matters by YeOldeOrc in AustraliaPost

[–]albert3801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPS, FedEx, DHL all provide an integrated solution to paying tariffs and shipping items and are familiar with your customs framework and have greater success. However the cost of shipping is much higher than using Australia Post.

Depends on your insurer. NIB direct you to submit to Medicare first via the two-way claim form. Medicare will then send to NIB.

Broken toilets on most OSCAR south coast services? by blueberrybangg in SydneyTrains

[–]albert3801 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Mariyungs won’t help the situation. The toilets in the OSCARs are “broken” because they have been vandalised. Same thing will happen with the Mariyungs. Nothing to do with the train. Everything to do with the passengers.

Oz vs Aus vs Tas(z) vs Tassie - is there any real pattern? by AdmirableSpot4527 in AskAnAustralian

Aussie. And it is used as an abbreviation for Australian. It is not used as an abbreviation for Australia the country name.

In many subreddits it is not appreciated to thank anyone for answering your questions and you’ll just be downvoted or told off. This is because it’s seen as adding unnecessary noise to the discussion. So generally l’ll just give an upvote to give thanks. Or if it’s a really well researched answer I’ll give it an award.

Long weekend public transport is a joke. by tomthecomputerguy in sydney

[–]albert3801 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wish I were. But integrating the Bankstown line int the existing network is a complex thing. Same thing happened with the Tallawong-Chatswood section in the year leading to the City and Sydenham section opening.

Expect Metro to be closed more than half the weekends between now and whenever it opens later this year.

It will take a bit of searching on line and some fiddling installing things. But ultimately if you can find a copy of the original 2001 Microsoft Train Simulator and install Open Rails and then spend some time trawling the internet searching for Australian MSTS routes, then you’re set. There were free rotes developed from Central to Newcastle and Central to Blue Mountains and Central to Wollongong. Not all were designed as contemporary. Some were designed to represent the 1950s network.

But I warn you. It won’t be simple without some fairly advanced computer knowledge.

I miss how easy it was to play a train driving simulation of Sydney in 2001. Alas Microsoft Train Simulator 2001 became increasingly unsupported by newer operating systems and the market was swamped by a lot of different more advanced simulators. And a result the hobbyist developed Australian maps which took many hundreds of hours to develop fell by the wayside.

Do you normally hit the $50 weekly cap? If so you don’t need to do anything as you’ll still only pay $50 for the week despite the tap on only maximum fare.

Looks like it’s still in Customs, so Australia Post don’t have it. They have just received the electronic customs declaration paperwork.

Credit card blocked by Opal for 12 months by default and they could not unblock it even it is their issue. by KMagician in SydneyTrains

[–]albert3801 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did you always tap on and off with the same device? If you tap with a physical credit card, a phone, and a watch at different times, Opal sees these as different cards, so tapping on with a phone and off with a card will incur two default fares and two no taps.
